Welcome to First Line Friday’s hosted by Hoarding Books.
Before we start the First Line Festivities, I’d like to give you a personal invitation to follow my site, and or visit again on January 1st. I will be unveiling my logo for Joy of Reading and giving away a book. Be sure to stop back in!
This week I’m featuring My Heart Belongs in Niagara Falls, New York by Amanda Barratt. This fantastic, page-turning story releases January 1, 2018 (soon my friends)! Click here to read my review, and learn more about this book.

As the coachman loaded her trunk onto the carriage, nausea churned inside Adele’s stomach.
Where is Adele going? Sounds like where ever it is, that she is quite nervous about making the trip!
Now it’s your turn!
Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line. To see what First Lines others are sharing this week head over to Hoarding Books.

Ohhh! I can’t wait to read that book!
Happy Friday!
My First Line Friday comes from a book I will be reading and reviewing soon, A Courtship on Huckleberry Hill by Jennifer Beckstrand.
Elsie Stutzman forced a smile and took the last bite of asparagus potato raisin casserole on her plate. She swallowed decisively, and it slid down her throat like a cup of wet cement.
Have a great weekend and stay warm!

Hi Susan! Your book sounds interesting. Now I want to know who cooked such a odd dish. It must have been someone she cared about, for her to actually eat it 😊

That first line definitely grabbed my interest, Susan! What a horrible combination of foods!! The heroine must be a very kind person, or have some other reason to be eating it.
I’m glad you enjoyed the first line from My Heart Belongs in Niagara Falls, NY and hope you have a chance to pick up a copy of the novel! 🙂

My first line comes from As a Sword in My Bones by Jessica C. Joiner. I bought it last Sunday to support a fellow indie author.
“If the Royal Council does nothing to curb my mother’s cruelty, the oppressed people of Boldaria will revolt and this nation will be engulfed in a civil war,” Prince Tristan Leander warned as he finished speaking before the gathered members of the twelve man Royal Council.

My first line comes from my young adult novel set in 7th century Ireland, THE KING’S PREY:
“Turlough never intended to shatter his brother’s life.”
I love this idea of posting first lines. Hooks are so fun to write . . . and read! Thanks for doing this! 🙂

I’m currently re-reading “The Lost Heiress” by Roseanna White. I got book three of the Ladies of the Manor series for Christmas, so am giving myself a refresher of books 1-2 before I get to the third. 😉
First line:

Of course I HAD to open an email with the subject line “Cover for My Heart Belongs in Niagara Falls, New York.” Aaaand I just about squealed and teared up, only to quickly compose myself because of my company!
