Once London’s top thief, Barclay Pearce has turned his back on his life of crime and now uses his skills for a nation at war. But not until he rescues a clockmaker’s daughter from a mugging does he begin to wonder what his future might hold.

Evelina Manning has constantly fought for independence but she certainly never meant for it to inspire her fiancé to end the engagement and enlist in the army. When the intriguing man who saved her returns to the Manning residence to study clockwork repair with her father, she can’t help being interested. But she soon learns that nothing with Barclay Pearce is as simple as it seems.

As 1915 England plunges ever deeper into war, the work of an ingenious clockmaker may give England an unbeatable military edge—and Germany realizes it as well. Evelina’s father soon finds his whole family in danger—and it may just take a reformed thief to steal the time they need to escape it.

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed every one of the many hours I took to fully immerse myself into this delightful story! Roseanna White expertly writes such dynamic characters and expansive settings that I just can’t help but be blissfully lost within the pages of her books!

I was super excited to get the chance to read Barclay’s story and to meet Evelina! Both of these strong characters grabbed a hold of my heart and wouldn’t let go. From the bustling streets of London to the French countryside at the edge of the war, this book will take you on a literary journey you won’t soon forget!

I especially appreciated how Roseanna White drew a connection between the master clock-maker and our Heavenly Father, as well as the reminder that we all are granted the same amount of hours and that we need to spend our time wisely.

While you could read this story as a stand-alone, you would miss out on the stories of Barclay’s sisters, each of which has their own amazing stories!

This book is one that you will want on your keeper shelf to pull out and enjoy again and again! I give this book 5 stars and encourage you to pick up a copy to enjoy today!
