About the book:
When Annie Jacobson’s brother Mike enlists as a medic in the Army in 1967, he hands her a piece of paper with the address of their long-estranged father. If anything should happen to him in Vietnam, Mike says, Annie must let their father know.
In Mike’s absence, their father returns to face tragedy at home, adding an extra measure of complication to an already tense time. As they work toward healing and pray fervently for Mike’s safety overseas, letter by letter the Jacobsons must find a way to pull together as a family, regardless of past hurts. In the tumult of this time, Annie and her family grapple with the tension of holding both hope and grief in the same hand, even as they learn to turn to the One who binds the wounds of the brokenhearted.
Author Susie Finkbeiner invites you into the Jacobson family’s home and hearts during a time in which the chaos of the outside world touched their small community in ways they never imagined.

Author Interview:
Q: What is your favorite season, and why?
Susie: Oh goodness. This is a hard one. But I have to say that I really love summer. The kids are home from school, we read a whole bunch together, and we make trips out to Lake Michigan to watch the sunset. It never lasts long enough.
Trisha: A Michigan summer can’t be beat!
Q: What is the best part of your day?
Susie: When my husband comes home from work. I know. It sounds cliche, but it’s true! He’s my favorite person and I love seeing him.
Trisha: That is so very sweet!
Q: What are some of your favorite CF reads from 10 years ago, or further?
Susie: I can’t believe that it’s been 10 years since it released, but I absolutely adore Lisa Samson’s The Passion of Mary-Margaret. I really love all of the books she shared with us!
Trisha: I’ve not read The Passion of Mary-Margaret. I’m going to have to correct that soon!
Q: If we took a peek at your “recently played” music, who would we find?
Susie: The Beatles!!!!! Of course!
Trisha: Of course!!
Q: What do you love about this story?
Susie: I think my favorite thing about All Manner of Things is how the family really came together. They were such a joy to write and I miss them a whole lot.
Trisha: Yes!! I wanted to hug them!
Q: Which character took you by surprise?
Susie: Honestly? Walt Vanderlaan. I didn’t anticipate myself feeling pity for him. But I’m glad I got to that point while writing him.
Trisha: He surprised me also, in a good way!
Q: What is something you hope readers will tell others about this story?
Susie: That even though this is a story that will make readers cry, it’s also chock full of hope.
Trisha: Absolutely!!
Q: What is something that didn’t make it into the final copy?
Susie: In an early draft, Bernie’s Diner was a gift shop that sold toy tomahawks and collectible wooden shoes. I’m glad I switched it to a diner, though.
Trisha: I like the dinner, it fits so well that I can’t imagine it being anything else.
Q: What are you currently working on and when will it be available?!
Susie: I recently turned in a manuscript that will release next July. More information about that to come!
Trisha: Oh, you are such a tease! I look forward to hearing more soon!

Being from Minnesota and getting more than enough of winter, my favorite season is summer! I love the extra family time, being at the lake, and feeling the warmth of the sun as I kick back and read. Either with a cold rootbeer or a glass of wine!
