Love’s Guiding Light by Andrea Boeshaar

Synopsis:

Amanda Lewis is about to lose the only home she’s ever known–the cottage at the North Point Light in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her mother had received the commission to operate the lighthouse, but tragedy rips away that commission.

Captain Ezra Danfield is new to the city. He plans to give his daughter stability, which includes a home and proper schooling. But a violent storm on Lake Michigan threatens their lives on the night of their arrival, and it’s Amanda Lewis, operating the North Point Light, who guides them safely into Milwaukee’s harbor. He makes a point to thank her, and when she asks for his help, Ezra cannot refuse.

However, Amanda has a few cockamamie ideas that could ruin her life, so Ezra must put a stop to them–even if it means shedding light on the darkest recesses of his heart and soul.

My Thoughts:

Set on the blustery coast of Lake Michigan, this sweet novella is one that is sure to capture both your senses and your imagination.  Andrea Boeshaar has crafted a heartwarming story with dynamic characters that are sure to please!

Amanda is a spunky young woman determined to keep her family legacy of operating the lighthouse, however, when tragedy strikes will she be able to move on and accept God’s plan for her future?

After the death of his wife, Captain Ezra has decided to set aside his days on board a ship to put down roots and raise his young daughter. His last shipment finds him navigating a storm on Lake Michigan where he finds safe harbor at the North Point harbor due in thanks to the lighthouse. Will Ezra find more than he expected? Will he be able to learn to lean on God after the devastating loss of his wife?

This sweet novella, with its dynamic characters, beautiful setting and history-rich details is sure to bring a smile to your face as you enjoy this charming story!

Timeless Love: Romantic Stories that Span the Ages

Synopsis:

Give Me Thine Heart 1812 Andrea Boeshaar
Moira loathes the man she is set to marry. But when she meets Samuel Stryker, she soon guesses that he’s from the colonies. When she finds a deep secret, Sam must make the decision: kill her or take her with him.

This Freedom Journey 1833 Misty M. Beller
Adrien Lockman left France to finally live life on his own terms, but when he discovers a half-starved and half-frozen woman in the treacherous Canadian mountains, the truth soon becomes clear–the only way they’ll survive is together.

The Heart of Home 1865 Stephenia H. McGee
Opal Martin aspires to scrub the remnants of the War Between the States from her tattered life. When a nearly drowned soldier appears and asks if he can die on her porch, she must guard against the sudden revival of her heart’s hope for love. Tristan Stuart wants to escape the pain of war. He wakes up at a house that’s too much like home, with a woman determined to mend him he may discover a life worth fighting for. To save the last of what Opal holds dear, will he become the man she needs or let the troubled waters carry him away?

Enchanting Nicholette 1893 Dawn Crandall
Young, widowed, and newly out of mourning, Nicholette Everstone is an heiress yearning to be loved. Her parents had arranged for her to marry her loving late husband, but the marriage ended tragically on her wedding day. Returning to Boston after being away, she finds there’s someone new to her set of friends and family she can’t help but fall for. But when she learns of the danger and sacrifices this man takes on, will her heart be strong enough to keep her fears at bay?

Teach Me To Love 1899 Kari Trumbo
Izzy Lawson has taken her last abuse. When her husband dies, she rushes to Belle Fourche to stay with the only friend she has. The wall she’s worked so hard to build crumbles in the arms of a man so different from her husband. Conrad Oleson can’t read and it’s shamed him for longer than he can remember. As Izzy reveals her painful past, he can’t stay away. He’ll do about anything, to get closer. Including, teach her how to love.

Façade 1942 Pepper D. Basham
Olivia Rakes has excellent observations skills for facts and details, but stumbles through matters of the heart. When her brother goes missing in German-occupied France, Livy enlists her services with a group of search-and-rescue spies, who not only thrust her toward espionage, but…romance. Agent Christopher Dawson has avoided Livy since she broke his heart. When the search for his best friend brings them together, the heart takes on a mind of its own. In a world where war changes the rules of life and love, can they work together to complete their rescue mission before the enemy catches them?

Bookishly Ever After 2018 Sarah Monzon
It all started with a bet and a book.
Emory Blake is the ultimate bibliophile. She’d take curling up with a novel over a night on the town any day. But then her best friend, Tate Woodby, accuses her of living between the pages of her paperbacks instead of the real world, and he makes a bet that will force her to experience the adventures of her fictional friends…instead of just reading about them. With her face no longer buried in books, Emory must confront the pain of the past.

My Thoughts:

Travel through time beginning in 1812 to 2018, all from the comfort of your favorite reading chair! Come along for an adventure that you won’t soon forget! Each story is unique, yet they all share the common thread of love and strong heroines who boldly face the dangers of the unknown.

I loved every story in this collection! Two of the authors were brand new to me, and I have already been searching for more books to read from them! It isn’t often that you come across a collection like this where every story sparks your imagination and keeps you turning pages wanting more.

Something for everyone can be found in the pages of these stories! Love, Laughter, History, Romance, Mystery, Adventure, and most of all each story shines a light on God and the importance of His love.

I give this delightful collection of stories an enthusiastic 5-stars and would encourage you to snap up your copy today!

(I received an early reader copy of this collection for review. I am not required to write a positive review. My thoughts and options are my own. I have pre-ordered a copy of this collection for myself from Amazon.)

Excerpt:

Sam digested the information and downed his rum, before setting aside the glass. He took his place near the entrance once more. He would take his leave shortly, but not too soon to arouse suspicion. He’d learned that General Ross must be stopped and the U. S. Capitol reinforced and he’d do his best to get that piece of information, as well as others, to President Madison in time.

However, he had to be on that ship tonight before it set sail for America.

Sam glanced across the way and stood to his full height, every nerve drawn tight, sending prickles of warning down the back of his neck. There, in the receiving parlor where all the smokers had shed their tailcoats was Miss Kingsly—

And in her hands lay Sam’s black diary, containing news that was not for her eyes!

He slipped from the room and crossed the large foyer. As he approached, she looked up and smiled when she saw him.  Her smoky-gray eyes held only a welcome, no fear or guilt from being caught snooping.

“What have you got there, Miss Kingsly?”

She glanced to the black book in her long, slender hands. “I don’t know. I found it on the floor.” She leafed through it. “Evidently it fell out of someone’s coat pocket.”

“So you took it upon yourself to read it?” Sam couldn’t keep the edge from his tone. Most likely she intended to run to her fiancé with what she learned.

“I read a few pages only to find out the book’s owner, is all.” Miss Kingsly tipped her head and strands of her straw-colored hair slipped from its pins. They fanned her cheek. “Does it belong to you?”

In reply, Sam held out his hand.

“I thought maybe it did.” She handed it over.

Sam bent to collect his tailcoat. From the way it lay in the pile, he could see how his diary had slipped from its hold. Perhaps Miss Kingsly had found it on the floor, but now she put him in a precarious position and he couldn’t take the chance of being discovered. Not now.

“Blast it all!” he snarled.

“Excuse me?”

Sam pulled on his coat and sheathed his diary. He buttoned it up the front, his gaze never wavering from her lovely face.

“I assure you, Mr. White, much of what I read made no sense and that which I did understand I shall keep it to myself. You have my word.”

Her promise meant nothing to him at this moment. In one swooping motion, he took hold of the knife he kept hidden inside his left boot and slapped his palm over her mouth to prevent a scream. “Miss Kingsly, I’m afraid I must kill you.”

Timeless Love Collection: Romantic Stories that Span the Ages

My Heart Belongs in the Shenandoah Valley (Lily’s Dilemma) by: Andrea Boeshaar

Journey into the Shenandoah Valley of 1816 where…
With Nothing Left, Lily May be Forced into a Loveless Marriage.

Synopsis:

Captain McAlister “Mac” Albright has purchased land in the Shenandoah Valley. However, the land belongs to Lillyanna Laughlin—or so she erroneously thinks. Mac sets her straight about current laws, and despite a poor start, the two are becoming friends.

Then, while Mac is away on business, Lily is faced with the impossible decision of marrying a man twice her age or she and her brothers becoming homeless, as her late father gambled away their home and acreage. But with debts being called in, will Lily be forced to choose a loveless marriage just when she is discovering what true love could be?  What can she possibly do? Will Mac return in time to spare Lily a lifetime of unhappiness?

My Review:

IMG_1073I enjoyed reading Lily’s story, it is the perfect mix of tart and sweet, it kept me engaged and turning pages to find out what would happen next. Andrea Boeshaar has penned a story abundant with historical detail, and characters so rich with emotion and descriptive detail you feel as if you were right there living the story along with Lily and Mac.

This sweeping story takes place in 1816, Virginia. The Virginia colony was dominated primarily by rich planters.  But what do you do when your father dies and your younger brothers are too young to shoulder the heavy lifting?

Lillyanna Laughlin had good reason to feel discouraged and angry, but she didn’t. She was kindness and graciousness all wrapped in one. Her father died, leaving her responsible for her two younger brothers. She struggles to do her best to bring in the harvest and keep food on their table. Then a court appointed guardian, one who is supposed to be her father’s closest friend, sells a majority of the property claiming that her father left them “penniless”.  I appreciated the strong faith in God that is evident in Lily. Even when things look bleak, she continues to have faith.

Captain McAlister “Mac” arrives in the Shenandoah valley looking for a quiet life on the farm, with hard work and the solid earth beneath his boots instead of the rolling sea. He is determined to start fresh in this new town and leave behind the baggage of old. However, baggage seems to have a habit of not getting lost when we want it, and old issues left un-resolved creep back demanding attention. Can Mac let go of his need for control and give it all to God?

If you enjoy reading historical stories with richly developed characters and a story full of emotion, you won’t want to miss out on this book.

(I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)
