Freedom’s Kiss (Carrington Family #3) by Sarah Monzon

Synopsis:

They were both prisoners of their past. Could legacy be the key to setting them free?

Olivia Arroyo knows who she is and where she’s going—her sense of family responsibility a stepping stone to her dream of becoming a chef. When her employer refuses her the chance to move from server to the kitchen, she makes another opportunity for herself with the owner of a new food truck. But her life derails when a hidden piece of her past suddenly comes to light, and she discovers everything she thought she knew about herself has been a lie.

A single decision can have innumerable consequences—a truth that has changed Adam Carrington’s life. A criminal defense attorney turned food truck owner, he is haunted by his role in an unpardonable act and driven by his need to make restitution. Unexpected help comes in the form of a feisty, raven-haired beauty, but she soon begins challenging his kitchen as well as his heart.

Florida, 1816
Propelled by a fleeting hope of freedom, Winnie and her family escape slavery and find refuge and new life with the Seminole Indians of Florida. But their future is still uncertain as threats of war, a return to slavery, and removal to the west shake their tentative grasp on freedom. Will they ever step out of the shadow of fear to leave a legacy of deliverance?

My Thoughts:

I absolutely loved reading this latest dual-timeline book from Sarah Monzon. Both of the stories equally captivated my attention, and I fell in love with the characters.

This page-turning story seamless blends together characters separated by two hundred years, however, they each must learn that there is freedom in following God’s plan. We have the freedom to make our own choices, but it is in choosing God’s plan that we will find true happiness.

Equally engaging and compelling, both of the timelines in this story will have you eagerly turning pages. A perfect blend of past and present that lingered in my thoughts and imagination long after I’d read the final chapter.

I give this book 4.5 stars and would encourage you to pick up a copy for yourself to enjoy immediately! I have come to know that picking up one of Sarah Monzon’s books I’ll not only be whisked away to a new place but meet some fascinating characters. This book has found a home on my keeper shelf!

With a poignant reminder that we are all priceless treasures.

Keziah is such a gentle soul. She is soft-spoken and kind. Her Place in Time by Stephenia H. McGee

Can love offer a new future…in the past?

A mysterious gown, unexpected courage, and a love that transcends time.

Synopsis:

Nursing student Lena Lowery faces a grim diagnosis and a dangerous surgery. On the cusp of the life-changing procedure, Lena stays at the Rosswood Plantation Bed and Breakfast for one last weekend with her mother. There in an antique armoire, Lena discovers a Civil War-era gown that holds an unimaginable cure…a trip back in time to when the house served as a hospital.

Confederate Sergeant Caleb Dockery lost his brother, his eye, and nearly his life. Stuck in a makeshift infirmary, he’s counting the days until he can return to duty…and seek revenge. When a stranger appears, he suspects she’s a spy. If he can’t return to duty and find the revenge he craves for his brother’s death, he can serve his country by stopping this traitor. But her nursing skills are saving lives, and her courage and independence stirs his heart. When Lena’s safety is threatened, Caleb must strain the loyalties that bind him or risk losing her forever.

Caught between a future that holds no promises and a past that could offer new life, Lena must face an extraordinary decision. Should she return to her own time where her days are numbered? Or can she and Caleb find a love that stretches across time?

If you like historical romance with a twist, strong female characters, and heroes that transcend eras, you’ll love this journey through time that tests the limits of love.

*Her Place in Time is set in the house from The Liberator Series, just prior to the start of Leveraging Lincoln. Fans of the series will enjoy seeing Annabelle and Peggy in this new novella.

My Thoughts:

If you collect book boyfriends (I’m looking at you Carrie  Booth Schmidt), get your fainting couch ready to swoon over Sergeant Caleb Dockery! “His hands were calloused. He stood when she entered a room. He treated her like something she’d never really thought about wanting to be treated like. A lady. And the way he kissed her…”

This exciting story will take you on a journey unlike any other you’ve experienced before! A dashing hero, that will have you reaching for your fan, and a heroine that I’m sure we can all identify with.

Lena struggles with feeling like she is enough. She has faced many challenges, but nothing like the challenge facing her now with her diagnosis. Now she’s discovered a past and glimpses a possibility at a future she didn’t think was possible. Will she leave behind all she knows?

Come along for a delightful journey through time. Be sure to bring your imagination and allow yourself to just enjoy the ride.  If you are looking for a fun story that will allow you to escape the daily stress, this is a story you won’t want to pass up!  I give this story 4.5 stars and would encourage you to grab a copy to enjoy for yourself.

All for Love: Three Historical Romance Novellas of Love and Laughter

Synopsis:

Three of Christian historical fiction’s beloved authors come together in this romantic and humorous collection of novellas featuring prequels to their latest series. New and loyal fans alike will enjoy these novellas previously released only as ebooks. Connealy’s “The Boden Birthright” journeys to the Old West, where ranch hand Chance Boden’s determination to be his own boss is challenged by his employer’s pretty daughter. Hunter’s “A Lady of Esteem” follows a Regency-era young lady whose chance at love and reputation in society are threatened by a nasty rumor. Turano’s “At Your Request” tells of a young woman who is humbled at her newly lowered status in society when she is reunited with the very man whose proposal she rejected.

Bookishly Ever After 2018 Sarah Monzon
It all started with a bet and a book.
Emory Blake is the ultimate bibliophile. She’d take curling up with a novel over a night on the town any day. But then her best friend, Tate Woodby, accuses her of living between the pages of her paperbacks instead of the real world, and he makes a bet that will force her to experience the adventures of her fictional friends…instead of just reading about them. With her face no longer buried in books, Emory must confront the pain of the past.

My Thoughts:

Travel through time beginning in 1812 to 2018, all from the comfort of your favorite reading chair! Come along for an adventure that you won’t soon forget! Each story is unique, yet they all share the common thread of love and strong heroines who boldly face the dangers of the unknown.

I loved every story in this collection! Two of the authors were brand new to me, and I have already been searching for more books to read from them! It isn’t often that you come across a collection like this where every story sparks your imagination and keeps you turning pages wanting more.

Something for everyone can be found in the pages of these stories! Love, Laughter, History, Romance, Mystery, Adventure, and most of all each story shines a light on God and the importance of His love.

Timeless Love Collection: Romantic Stories that Span the Ages

The Captured Bride (Daughters of the Mayflower #3) by Michelle Griep

A War-Torn Countryside Is No Place for a Lady

Synopsis:

Mercy Lytton is a lady like none other. Raised amongst the Mohawks, she straddles two cultures, yet each are united in one cause. . .to defeat the French. Born with a rare gift of unusually keen eyesight, she is chosen as a scout to accompany a team of men on a dangerous mission. Yet it is not her life that is threatened. It is her heart.  Condemned as a traitor, Elias Dubois faces the gallows. At the last minute, he is offered his freedom if he consents to accompany a stolen shipment of French gold to a nearby fort—but he is the one they stole it from in the first place. It turns out that the real thief is the beguiling woman, Mercy Lytton, for she steals his every waking thought.   Can love survive divided loyalties in a backcountry wilderness?

My Thoughts:

I absolutely loved this story, and I really didn’t want it to end! The setting, the characters, it was all so real and tangible.  When I had to set aside the book to go to bed, I ended up dreaming about the characters. The secrets and the mystery in the story kept me turning pages. I just couldn’t get enough!

When I was younger, my sister and I use to pretend we were Indians and see how quietly we could walk through the woods and not leave any trace we’d be there. Mercy Lytton doesn’t just play scout, she is one! Mercy is accustomed to standing on her own. She’s capable, fiery, and an expert tracker. Yet, it is her heart that makes the largest growth.

I wasn’t quite sure what to think of Elias at first. But as the story progressed and I got to know him better, I couldn’t help but fall for him. Elias has his own secrets, and he hides them well. Elias surprised me a few times but in the best way.

I was captivated right from the start, there wasn’t a dull moment, the story flowed seamlessly all the way to the end (that I wasn’t ready to see). I give this fantastic book 5 enthusiastic stars. Do yourself a favor and go buy this one on June 1st when it comes out!

(I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)

Survival wasn’t easy on the early frontier. Harsh winters, fierce natives, and an abundance of wild animals. Each story is unique, with fascinating characters.

I enjoyed reading the stories in this collection and the distinctive voice that each author brought to this collection. As with any collection, there were a few stories that I could pick out as my favorite, but I can honestly say that each story was enjoyable.

Excerpt:

Sam digested the information and downed his rum, before setting aside the glass. He took his place near the entrance once more. He would take his leave shortly, but not too soon to arouse suspicion. He’d learned that General Ross must be stopped and the U. S. Capitol reinforced and he’d do his best to get that piece of information, as well as others, to President Madison in time.

However, he had to be on that ship tonight before it set sail for America.

Sam glanced across the way and stood to his full height, every nerve drawn tight, sending prickles of warning down the back of his neck. There, in the receiving parlor where all the smokers had shed their tailcoats was Miss Kingsly—

And in her hands lay Sam’s black diary, containing news that was not for her eyes!

He slipped from the room and crossed the large foyer. As he approached, she looked up and smiled when she saw him.  Her smoky-gray eyes held only a welcome, no fear or guilt from being caught snooping.

“What have you got there, Miss Kingsly?”

She glanced to the black book in her long, slender hands. “I don’t know. I found it on the floor.” She leafed through it. “Evidently it fell out of someone’s coat pocket.”

“So you took it upon yourself to read it?” Sam couldn’t keep the edge from his tone. Most likely she intended to run to her fiancé with what she learned.

“I read a few pages only to find out the book’s owner, is all.” Miss Kingsly tipped her head and strands of her straw-colored hair slipped from its pins. They fanned her cheek. “Does it belong to you?”

In reply, Sam held out his hand.

“I thought maybe it did.” She handed it over.

Sam bent to collect his tailcoat. From the way it lay in the pile, he could see how his diary had slipped from its hold. Perhaps Miss Kingsly had found it on the floor, but now she put him in a precarious position and he couldn’t take the chance of being discovered. Not now.

“Blast it all!” he snarled.

“Excuse me?”

Sam pulled on his coat and sheathed his diary. He buttoned it up the front, his gaze never wavering from her lovely face.

“I assure you, Mr. White, much of what I read made no sense and that which I did understand I shall keep it to myself. You have my word.”

Her promise meant nothing to him at this moment. In one swooping motion, he took hold of the knife he kept hidden inside his left boot and slapped his palm over her mouth to prevent a scream. “Miss Kingsly, I’m afraid I must kill you.”
