Hereafter (The Lost Princesses #3) by Jody Hedlund

The third lost princess. The final key to the treasure. And a battle for the throne.

Synopsis:

Growing up deep in the forest as a poor charcoal burner’s daughter, Emmeline has always known her identity as a princess of Mercia, and she lives in fear of being caught and killed. When her adopted father returns from town with news regarding the imminence of war, Emmeline has no wish to join the rebellion against King Ethelwulf.

Prince Ethelrex, the strongest warrior in the land, has done everything he can to prove his loyalty to his father, including searching for the last lost princess. When Ethelrex finally captures Emmeline, the king commands his son to marry the princess in order to win the support of the people and undermine the rebellion.

Forced into marriage, Emmeline has one goal—to escape. But Ethelrex takes his marriage vows seriously, including his promise to love and cherish his wife, and has no intention of letting Emmeline get away. As the battle for the throne rages, will the prince be able to win the battle for Emmeline’s heart?

My Thoughts:

I stayed up way too late reading this book, and it was worth every blink of my tired eyes today! I just couldn’t put this story down! This entire series is a page-turning delight, every book is better than the last! Not one story slowed, they just built on top of the last, culminating in this final, masterpiece of a grand finale that I didn’t want to end!

Each of these three sisters holds her own, with her own special gifts, and challenges. But if I had to pick a favorite, I’d have to go with Emmeline. Her courage to stand tall and face the unknown is a reminder that true courage isn’t about feeling brave, it’s facing your fears, knowing that God is always with you.

Filled with action, adventure, and wonderfully dynamic characters that at once had me holding my breath and turning pages to see what would happen next! I really enjoyed watching this unexpected love grow between, Rex and Emma. A love that started out as a conscious choice, and a promise. A love that grew as the story progressed. A beautiful reminder that true love is sacrificial, and wants what is best for the other person.

Be sure to grab this superb Lost Princesses series! You will want to add these stories to your personal library to not only share with your friends but to read and enjoy it again!

The Painted Castle (Lost Castle #3) by Kristy Cambron

Bestselling author Kristy Cambron concludes the Lost Castle novels with this sweeping tale of art and secrets long buried in England.

Synopsis:

It was supposed to be a one-week job: survey an art find, collect a hefty fee, and use that to settle historian Kiera Foley’s life back into balance. But from the moment she sets foot in the East Suffolk countryside, the mysteries surrounding the old English manor and the enigmatic art thief who’s employed her stir more questions than answers. Then, Kiera finds the existence of a portrait captivating enough to upend all of her expectations. This one could be a twin—a painting so close in composition to a known masterpiece, it may be rendered priceless if it truly captured the likeness of a young Queen named Victoria.

Set in three time periods—the rapid change of Victorian England, the tumultuous skies over England’s eastern shores in WWII, and modern day—The Painted Castle unfolds a legacy of faith, family, and stories that are generations in the making.

The Painted Castle (Lost Castle #3)

My Thoughts:

I fell into this book, and I didn’t want to leave! I loved every moment I spent in the pages of this captivating book! Resplendent with vivid imagery, witty dialogue, and dynamic characters all brought this story to life in my imagination.  I equally enjoyed all three of the story-lines and thought that Kristy Cambron tied them together quite brilliantly!

These characters pulled me in and invited me along the journey. I felt every heart-pounding moment right along with them. The mystery, the tender romance, and even the heart-breaking moments that had me reaching for the tissue box. A Christmas dance in stocking feet to the sound of a crackling fire, and many other tender moments that had me holding my breath in anticipation of what would be said next. Intense, and searing the story held me in its grip.

Each of the three time-lines equally captivated my imagination and griped my heart in unexpected ways. Each left indelible marks on my heart that shall stay with me long into the future. I give this book 5-enthusiastic stars and encourage you to enjoy this story yourself at your earliest convenience!

(I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.)

Once Upon A Dickens Christmas by Michelle Griep

Three Delightful Christmas Tales from Beloved Storyteller Michelle Griep

Synopsis:

Pour yourself a cuppa, get lost in the merriment of the season, and enjoy a Dickensian Christmas in three stories from fan-favorite Michelle Griep:

12 Days at Bleakly Manor: Brought together under mysterious circumstances, Clara and Ben discover that what they’ve been striving for isn’t what ultimately matters. What matters most is what Christmas is all about . . . love.

A Tale of Two Hearts: Pleasure seeker William Barlow needs a wife immediately to gain his uncle’s inheritance, and Mina Scott is just the girl to make him look respectable—too bad she turns him down. Ought he give her a second chance?

The Old Lace Shop: Recently widowed Bella White is finally freed from the domination of the overbearing men in her life, but when she enters into a business partnership with the handsome Edmund Archer, she begins to wonder if marriage is worth a second chance.

My Thoughts:

I have enjoyed each of the three stories in this charming Dickens Christmas collection. The first two stories, 12 Days at Bleakly Manor and A Tale of Two Hearts each were first printed on their own. The new story in this collection is The Old Lace Shop. Since I have previously reviewed (and loved) the first two stories on their own, I will focus my attention on this review primarily with the new story, The Old Lace Shop.

Right from the very first page our heroine, Bella captured my sympathies and my heart. She chose to rise above the situation she found herself in and grab life by the reigns. Unconventional and determined, Bella is a strong heroine. I enjoyed watching her grow in this story.

Edmund Archer kept me on my toes. One moment I liked him, and the next I wanted to purse-whomp him. He was full of surprises! He isn’t the picture-perfect hero, he has his flaws. But just maybe that is what makes him so endearing, and unforgettable.

The setting of the story, while industrial, and dreary in its drab corner of England, is lit by its vivacious characters that rise above the backdrop and add color and life into their surroundings. I appreciate the fact that the author invites us into a less seldom view of a Victorian Christmas.

This collection of stories makes the perfect gift for the book-lover on your list and it is sure to become your new favorite Christmas tradition!

(I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)

Wedded to War (Heroines Behind the Lines: Civil War #1) by Jocelyn Green

A Christy Award-nominated title for best new author.

When war erupted, she gave up a life of privilege for a life of significance.

Synopsis:

Tending to the army’s sick and wounded meant leading a life her mother does not understand and giving up a handsome and approved suitor. Yet Charlotte chooses a life of service over privilege, just as her childhood friend had done when he became a military doctor. She soon discovers that she’s combating more than just the rebellion by becoming a nurse.

Will the two men who love her simply stand by and watch as she fights her own battles? Or will their desire for her wage war on her desire to serve God?

Wedded to War is a work of fiction, but the story is inspired by the true life of Civil War nurse Georgeanna Woolsey. Woolsey’s letters and journals, written over 150 years ago, offer a thorough look at what pioneering nurses endured. This is the first in the series Heroines Behind the Lines: Civil War, a collection of novels that highlights the crucial contributions made by women during times of war.

My Thoughts:

What a powerful story!! Right from the beginning I was swept away on a tidalwave of words and blissfully along for the ride.  What a beautiful and poignant picture this story paints. I absolutely loved it! The historical details are flawless. I wasn’t previously aware that women nurses got their foot-hold in the practice of Nursing during the Civil war. I enjoyed learning about some of the history of nursing through this story. I especially appreciated the authentic letters that the author included, it really helped make it all that much more vivid and real.

I enjoyed the vivacious characters and felt like I was involved in the story with them. I found the characters vivid and realistic, they evoked strong reactions. On more than one occasion I found myself talking to them wishing they could hear me and heed my warnings!

If you enjoy reading historical stories, especially ones set during the American Civil War, then you will not want to miss out on snagging this story!! You are sure to love it as much as I have! I look forward to reading the other stories in this series.

(I received a copy of this book in audio-book format from the author/publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I am not required to write a positive review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.)

Evermore (The Lost Princesses #1) by Jody Hedlund

Synopsis:

An ancient key. A secret treasure. And a princess destined to use them both to fight evil and restore peace.

Raised by a noble family, Lady Adelaide has always known she’s an orphan. Little does she realize she’s one of the lost princesses and the true heir to Mercia’s throne…until a visitor arrives at her family estate, reveals her birthright as queen, and thrusts her into a quest for the throne whether she’s ready or not.

Unable to tolerate King Ethelwulf’s cruelty and lawlessness, Christopher Langley left Mercia years earlier, training a group of rebels in neighboring Norland. When he returns home after his mother’s death, he discovers that not only is Adelaide all grown up, but she’s also the rightful queen of Mercia.

When King Ethelwulf discovers Adelaide’s location, he’ll stop at nothing to capture her and the key she holds to the ancient treasure. Christopher is just as determined to protect Adelaide so she can lead the growing rebellion. When feelings ignite between the two old friends, forces threaten to destroy their love and rip them apart forever.

My Thoughts:

I am loving this new series from Jody Hedlund! The story is captivating, the characters are dynamic and endearing. First of all, let me say that you will want to make sure to read Always (The Lost Princesses 0.5) before picking up this story. As the stories build on each other.  Always is a pure delight. A stunning, fast-paced story that you don’t want to miss. But let’s return to talking about Evermore!

This story is written in the first-person narrative that shifts between the two main characters. It really invites the reader behind the curtain and offers an intimate, personable view of what is going on in the mind of the characters. The story fairly leaped off the page an into my imagination and I was along for the blissful ride!

Lady Adelaide is a force to be reckoned with. She is tough, yet tender. Fostered by Sir Langley and his wife Lady Susanna and raised with their three boys, she isn’t afraid to ride faster and swing a sword against a foe. Adelaide isn’t afraid to face difficult challenges and she takes time to pray and ask God for wisdom before making decisions. She has a big heart for others and wants to help those less fortunate. She isn’t perfect, but she learns from her mistakes and grows.

I loved all the characters in this book!! The plot twists, the narrow escapes, and so much more! Trust me you won’t want to miss out on a moment of this exciting story. I can’t wait to read more and see which sister is the focus on the next story!
