Finally Accepted (Freedom Lake #3) by Toni Shiloh

Synopsis:

There’s only one thing Chloe Smith has ever wanted: family. Yet the DNA results she’s received have thrown her life into a tailspin. Her utmost desire has ended up being the catalyst for shaking her faith. She doesn’t even know who she is anymore, and she’s certainly too messed up for her longtime crush to give her more than a second glance.

Darryl Jones is struggling between his past and the grace God so freely offers. His sins feel too big for him to handle, let alone expect the woman of his dreams to accept. Chloe is the only woman he’s ever wanted and the one he doesn’t deserve.

As they form a tentative relationship and examine their faith, Chloe and Darryl ache to know they are finally accepted and fully loved.

My Thoughts:

I have enjoyed every story in the Freedom Lake series! Toni Shiloh puts an enormous amount of heart, truth and the love of God into everything she writes. This heart-wrenching story of two people searching for the love of family and for acceptance is sure to give you a clearer image of our Father and his amazing love for us all!

Chole and Darryl are two people longing for family, for grace and acceptance. In truth, that is all something that we each long for. In learning to rely more fully on God, to wait on His perfect timing we can come to grow in our relationship with God.

This story wraps up the series beautifully, teaches us lessons, and invites us to draw closer to God. I give this wonderful story 4 stars and would encourage you to grab a copy and settle in for a delightful story that is sure to warm your heart!

Grace Restored (Freedom Lake #2)

Synopsis:

Michelle Thomas has it all. Beautiful and successful, she’s just opened her own law firm in Freedom Lake. What more could she want? When her old flame rolls back into Freedom Lake, she’s intent on ignoring him. But how can she give the widower and his precious twin girls the cold shoulder?

Still reeling from the death of his wife, Guy Pierre returns to Freedom Lake to take over as town sheriff and raise his twin daughters. Alone. Yet, life keeps throwing Michelle in his path and sparks of interest began to rise.

Will old secrets tear them apart again or can they find the faith to let God’s grace restore what has been broken?

My Thoughts:

I loved reading the first book in the Freedom Lake series and I was super excited to be able to read this second story. It was like visiting old friends. While you could read this book as a stand-alone, you would miss out on the background information of secondary characters not to mention another fantastic story!

Grace Restored is a beautiful story!  The writing style is engaging and captivating. The characters are realistic and I felt mesmerized and charmed by their story, yet humbled by their candid honesty. With a touch of drama, a splash of romance, and at its core the all-encompassing love of our Savior.  You won’t want to put this story down!

Raw and honest this story challenged me to take a hard look at myself. It’s easy to put up the facade of “everything is okay”, while we hold on tightly to our secrets. But what a privilege we have as children of God to be able, to be honest, and share our burdens with one another and with our Savior.

At its core, this story is a gentle reminder that we are all sinners, and we all need God’s grace. I give this fabulous story 5 enthusiastic stars! Run, don’t walk to your nearest bookstore (or online bookseller) to purchase a copy of this book for yourself!

Returning Home (Freedom Lake #1) by: Toni Shilo (Giveaway tour with Singing Librarian)

returning-home-tour_1_orig

Synopsis:

Jo Ellen Baker is shocked to find out that the boy who teased her mercilessly throughout high school, has returned to their hometown of Freedom Lake, and he’s missing a leg. When his mother asks her to renovate their carriage house to give him a place to gain his independence back, she wants to say no. But one look at him brings a rush of forgotten feelings.

Evan Carter can’t believe he has to return home and live with his parents. Every hope and dream he ever had dissipated in a car crash that cost him his leg. Stuck in a wheelchair, he’s forced to reexamine his relationship with God and the local carpenter, Jo Ellen Baker.

Will renovating his home open the door for a mended relationship, or are some wounds too deep to heal from?

Snippet:

Evan Carter stared at his girlfriend, admiring her beauty. Brenda’s pixie haircut framed her pretty face and a soft smile graced her lips. She wore charm and gentleness like a cloak as she gracefully changed lanes. She drove his new Altima like it was made for her.
He loved that Brenda suited every aspect of his life. She was a slam dunk in the girlfriend department. He ran his fingers over the velvet box in his pocket. Tonight was the night. The restaurant staff had been informed of his plans. With their help, his proposal would be flawless.
“Should I adjust the temp?” he asked.
“I’m good, sweetie,” she smiled at him, then quickly faced forward again.
Brenda would make the best high-school coach’s wife. His students loved her and she loved basketball as much as he did. It was so easy to be with her.
“Evan, you made the perfect choice. This car is so quiet. I can’t believe we can’t hear the outside noise.”
“I know. That’s what sold me.” He pointed up ahead. “Make a right at the light.” He hadn’t revealed their dinner location. If he didn’t pay close attention, they’d miss a turn.
“Are you sure you don’t want to tell me where we’re going?”
“I’m sure. I still think you should have let me drive. Then it would really be a surprise.”
She laughed. “Of course, it would have been better, but I’ve been itching to get behind the wheel ever since you bought it.”
“Well now—”
A black truck swerved in and out of their lane.
“Baby, slow down. Watch out for that truck!”
There was nowhere to pull over, no way to avoid the impending collision. The two-lane road had no shoulder and the truck was picking up speed.
The black truck righted itself. But before Evan could even sigh in relief, the truck corrected, ending up in their lane, headed straight for them.
They were going to collide.
Evan held his breath, clenched his eyes, and braced for impact. Brenda’s scream pierced the air, but it seemed far away. His seat belt locked tight as the car came to an abrupt stop.
A weight dropped onto his leg. Pain exploded, smoke filled his nose. His body struggled to make sense of what happened. Finally, he closed his eyes and gave in to the darkness.

My Thoughts:

Right from the first few lines, there is action, and I was hooked. I couldn’t put this book down, I had to know what was going to happen next. The action and the characters are so realistic and believable. I stayed up past midnight reading this book. I found myself caring deeply about what would happen to these characters.

The tragic event resulting in Evan’s return to his parent’s home brings about a huge change in his life, one that he didn’t plan for, nor want. He is understandably angry and puts up walls to keep others away. Written with such feeling and emotion, you can’t help but wish you could reach out somehow and offer encouragement.

I appreciated how Toni seamless wove a strong faith into this story and how each character found their own path to a relationship with God. Not that it was easy. This story is real, raw and full of vivacity. It doesn’t shy away from the tough subjects but faces them head-on with a measure of grace and a sprinkling of love.

I sincerely enjoyed my time in Freedom Lake with Evan, Jo, and the other cast of dynamic characters. I look forward to reading more from Toni Shiloh and reading more stories from Freedom Lake! Fans of Becky Wade & Brandy Bruce will find they enjoy Toni Shiloh’s writing as well.

Returning Home (Freedom Lake #1)

Welcome, Toni! I’m so happy to visit with you today and get to know you a little better.  Let’s get started with a few getting to know you questions, and then we’ll talk about the book.

Heather'sGardenQ:  What is your favorite season, and why?

Toni:  Growing up it was summer because I hate to be cold. But now that I live in a place that has all four seasons, I love spring. It’s absolutely stunning to see the flowers bloom and see the sun shine but not bake you. 😊

Trisha:  My favorite is Spring also! There is something about the rebirth of the trees and flowers, and just life bursting forth.

Q:  What is the best part of your day?

coffee-2593577_640Toni:  Oh wow. I’m not sure if I can pick just one. I love waking and reading God’s word. I love seeing my kiddos come home from school. But I also love their bedtime and the quietness that descends afterward. 😉

Trisha:  Yes, starting the day with God is the best. The quiet of the evening after children’s bedtime is pretty nice too. Peaceful times!

Q:  What are some of your favorite Christian Fiction reads from 10 years ago, or further?

book-863418_640Toni:  Ten years ago I didn’t know Christian fiction existed. The only book I was aware of was the Left Behind series. I believe I had read all of them by 2007 but I wasn’t reading anything else.

Trisha:  You know, I’ve never read even one of the Left Behind series. I have read plenty of other CF books.

Q:  If we took a peek at your “recently played” music, who would we find?

mobile-616012_640Toni:  Kari Jobe, Jesus Culture, and Elevation Worship. You might also find some Adele, Maren Morris, and Thompson Square.

Trisha:  Great selection of music you have! Kari Jobe has such a beautiful voice and her songs are so moving. I too enjoy Thompson Square, but I’ve not listened to their music in a while.

blur-1869579_640Q:  Did the plotline or the characters come first?

Toni:  The characters. They usually always come first, strolling by in my mind or some are bold enough to tap me on my shoulder and ask for a turn on the laptop.

Trisha:  I love that you have some bold characters!

Q:  Which character in Returning Home, took you by surprise?

books-315677_640Toni:  Jo’s mother. I was pretty sure nothing she could say or do would shock me but I was wrong.

Trisha:  Yes! She did surprise me as well. She is quite a unique character.

Q:  What was the latest you stayed up working on this story?

desk-1148994_640Toni:  Not that late at all. I’m not a morning person or a night owl. I’m pretty much a middle of the day person. I love sleep too much.

Trisha:  I’m with you there, sleep is a beautiful thing!

Q:  What is something that didn’t make it into the story?

pencil-918449_640Toni:  I had scenes from Guy’s point of view (POV), Evan’s father, Evan’s mother, and one from Michelle’s. I got some advice that said too many POV’s would be confusing. Instead, I rewrote the scenes from Jo or Evan’s POV.

Trisha:  I can see how that could be overwhelming with so many voices.

Q:  What was your most memorable vacation?

mickey-mouse-1776700_640Toni:  The first time I went to Disney World with my husband. It was our first vacation together and utterly magical. We’ve been a total of 6 times since, all sans kids. 😊

Trisha:  That does sound like it would be fun!

Thank you, Toni for visiting today and sharing with us about you and your wonderful book ‘Returning Home’. Please, do come and chat again some time soon!

Friends, do come back later this week, as I will be on tour with Singing Librarian for a review and giveaway of ‘Returning Home’.

I would love to hear from you:
