Storing Up Trouble (American Heiresses #3) Jen Turano

About this book:

After Miss Beatrix Waterbury suffers multiple mishaps due to her involvement with the suffrage movement, her mother decides a change of scenery is in order for her incorrigible daughter. Banished from New York, Beatrix is sent off for an extended stay with her Aunt Gladys.

Mr. Norman Nesbit, a gentleman and a brilliant man of science devoted to his work, doesn’t have time to be distracted with members of the feminine set. When robbers descend on the train, intent on divesting him from his important research papers, Norman is thrust into Beatrix’s company when she has the audacity to interfere—leaving him no choice but to try to save her from herself.

When Beatrix’s life is put at stake after her arrival and employment as a salesgirl in Chicago, they find themselves propelled into each other’s company again and again. With danger and intrigue dogging their every step, they become surprisingly drawn to each other—until information comes to light that threatens to crush this relationship that’s barely had a chance to blossom.

My Thoughts:

Take one spunky heroine ahead of her time, add an absent-minded hero, plus an eccentric  cast of particular secondary characters and of course you must have the creative mastermind of Jen Turano herself, and presto, you have the makings of one dazzling, masterfully written story that is sure to engage and delight even the most persnickety of readers.

Even though this is the third book in the series, those new to the American Heiresses will be delighted just the same. Of course if there are cameo appearances of past characters that those familiar with the series will be trilled to have a glimpse at where life has taken them.

I especially enjoyed my time reading this fabulous story. Cover to cover, these vibrant characters and the energetic plot is one that you won’t want to miss! Be sure to snag your copy today!

Serving Up Love: A Harvey House Brides Collection

About This Collection:

Bestselling novelist Tracie Peterson joins Karen Witemeyer, Regina Jennings, and Jen Turano in this collection of four novellas, each featuring a Harvey Girl heroine. From Kansas to Texas, the Grand Canyon to New Mexico, the stories cross the country with tales of sweet romance and entertaining history.

In Karen Witemeyer’s “More Than a Pretty Face,” a young woman works her hardest to escape poor choices from her youth. Tracie Peterson offers “A Flood of Love,” where reuniting with an old flame after more than a decade offers unexpected results. Regina Jennings’s “Intrigue a la Mode” delights with a tale of a young woman determined to help support her family, despite warnings of danger nearby. And Jen Turano’s “Grand Encounters” heads to the Grand Canyon with a tale of a society belle intent on finding a new life for herself.

Serving Up Love: A Harvey House Brides Collection

My Thoughts:

I loved this super fun collection of stories!  The heroines were filled with just the right amount of spunk and sass, all while having the strong moral character required to work as a Harvey Girl. Each story brought it own unique flair. Somehow I had missed the Judy Garland classic movie “The Harvey Girls”, and reading this fun collection of stories has made me want to find a copy to watch. Can’t get enough of the Harvey Girls!  Although I have a sneaking suspension that the dynamic authors of this collection can not possibly be outdone by Judy Garland.  I mean, how could a movie possibly be any better than this delightful collection from Jen Turano, Regina Jennings, Karen Witemeyer and Tracie Peterson?!

I don’t want to give anything away with these stories, so I’ll just wrap it up by saying that you truly do not want to pass up the opportunity to read and enjoy this fabulous stories!

Diamond in the Rough (American Heiresses #2) by Jen Turano

Synopsis:

To save her family from financial ruin, Miss Poppy Garrison accepts an unusual proposition to participate in the New York social season in exchange for her grandmother settling a family loan that has unexpectedly come due. Ill-equipped to handle the intricacies of mingling within the New York Four Hundred, Poppy becomes embroiled in one hilarious fiasco after another, doomed to suffer a grand societal failure instead of being deemed the diamond of the first water her grandmother longs for her to become.

Reginald Blackburn, second son of a duke, has been forced to travel to America to help his cousin, Charles Wynn, Earl of Lonsdale, find an American heiress to wed in order to shore up his family estate that is in desperate need of funds. Reginald himself has no interest in finding an heiress to marry, but when Poppy’s grandmother asks him to give etiquette lessons to Poppy, he swiftly discovers he may be in for much more than he bargained for.

Diamond in the Rough (American Heiresses #2)

My Thoughts:

From start to finish this is such a fun, high-spirited, effervescent story *insert happy sigh*!! Without fail, I know that I  can depend on finding an enjoyable story when I pick up a book written by author Jen Turano.

With vivacious and often quirky characters that beacon you to kick-up your heels and join in the fun antics. Toss in a measure of light-hearted banter and you have the perfect recipe for a story that is sure to have you both gasping at the sheer genius and laughing out loud wishing you had thought of something similar yourself. I just love the characters of this book!

Jen Turano has a knack for artfully tucking into her light-hearted stories serious topics that often in polite conversations we tip-toe around. The savy reader will appreciate the delicate, balance achieved here and appreciate the blend of fun and serious that most skip right past in joyful abandon.

If you are searching for a fun, entertaining novel to lighten your mood and bring laughter to your day then this is the book for you! To be sure this story has found a place of honor on my keeper shelf!

Flights of Fancy (American Heiresses #1) by Jen Turano

Synopsis:

Miss Isadora Delafield may be an heiress, but her life is far from carefree. When her mother begins pressuring her to marry an elderly and uncouth duke, she escapes from the high society world she’s always known and finds herself to be an unlikely candidate for a housekeeper position in rural Pennsylvania.

Mr. Ian MacKenzie is known for his savvy business sense and has built his reputation and fortune completely on his own merits. But when his adopted parents are in need of a new housekeeper and Isadora is thrown into his path, he’s unexpectedly charmed by her unconventional manner.

Neither Isadora nor Ian expected to find the other so intriguing, but when mysterious incidents on the farm and the truth of Isadora’s secret threaten those they love, they’ll have to set aside everything they thought they wanted for a chance at happy-ever-after.

Flights of Fancy

My Thoughts:

What would you do to avoid an unwanted, determined suitor? Would you leave behind the “world” you know and go into hiding?

Miss Isadora Delafield is accustom to being the most sought after heiress. However, most unwanted suitors are fairly easy to shake. Until her path crosses that of an elderly Duke, who is more determined to acquire an heiress and produce an heir than her typical suitors. No one would think to find a spoiled heiress filling the role of a housekeeper.

In true Jen Turno style, hilarity ensues! There is just so much to enjoy within this story! Along with the characters, I felt a range of emotions. I laughed out loud, I held my breath in anticipation, I felt upset about the unfair treatment of those less fortunate, and my heart broke with the loss of loved ones. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep the story flowing and to keep me on my toes!

There is true depth to the characters. It is fun to watch as they discover things about themselves and grow into stronger individuals. The storyline is fun and believable. The heroine is a true bibliophile and I enjoyed the nods to literary greats within the story.

There is plenty to love about this latest story from Jen Turano. With witty dialogue, vivid characters and plenty of fun, this story is one for the keeper shelf! I encourage you to pick up a copy and dive right in, you won’t be sorry!

Caught by Surprise (Apart from the Crowd #3) by Jen Turano

Synopsis:

Miss Temperance Flowerdew is on her way to work when a stranger suddenly grabs her off the street and sends her on a Chicago-bound train before she can figure out what happened.

When Mr. Gilbert Cavendish is called upon to rescue a missing woman, he follows the trail to Chicago only to discover that the woman is his good friend Temperance. Before they can discover who was behind the abduction, they’re seen alone together by a New York society matron, putting their reputations at risk.

Gilbert is willing to propose marriage–except Temperance will have none of it. She’s finally stepped out of the shadow of her relations and won’t give up her independence. But when it becomes clear the misunderstanding in Chicago has escalated into a threat on her life and followed her to New York, accepting Gilbert’s help in solving the mystery may lead to more than she ever could have dreamed.

My Thoughts:

This is such a fun and engaging story! I was hooked from the very first page when Temperance is kidnapped right off the street and finds herself whisked away on a train bound for Chicago.

Temperance Flowerdew quickly became my favorite wallflower. Hidden behind her quiet reserve beats the heart of a lioness. The loss of her parents affected her deeply and as a result, she hid within herself. It is only at being reunited with a childhood friend that she blooms and returns to her feisty personality. She is independent, impulsive and sassy!

With a fun lively cast of characters, a mystery to solve and lots of laughs, this a story you will want on your keeper shelf to pull out to enjoy again and again! I give this delightful book 5-stars and strongly encourage you to pick up a copy!
