Woman of Sunlight (Brides of Hope Mountain #2) by Mary Connealy

Synopsis:

After years of isolation on top of Hope Mountain, Ilsa Nordegren may finally be ready to leave. Raised to fear the world, Ilsa and her sisters never planned on coming down, but when the Warden family arrived in need, they had to help. And it may cost them everything.

Having made his fortune, Mitch Warden returned home and found the family homestead abandoned. In a land grab, a ruthless cattle baron had forced his family to escape up the mountain, and when he follows, the last thing he expects is to fall smitten to a black-haired woman who dresses like Robin Hood.

Warden is intent on helping his family reclaim their land, but doesn’t realize the risks his past has brought. Dangerous men have tracked him, and rather than risk innocent lives, he’s determined to end the danger. But that means a journey to the city–and when Ilsa insists on joining him, the mismatched pair suddenly find themselves on a venture they’ll never forget.

Woman of Sunlight (Brides of Hope Mountain #2)

My Thoughts:

This second story in the Brides of Hope Mountain series picks up right where the last story ended. I enjoyed spending time with Ilsa and Mitch in this story and getting to know them better.

I didn’t want to put this story down for a moment. The adventure, the mystery, and of course the fun banter between these two characters kept me wanting more and turning pages late into the night. I do have to admit that I didn’t like how this book ended. But with that said, I was thrilled to find out that there will be a third book, and I can not wait to get my hands on that story!

If you are looking for a page-turning, witty story, filled with mystery and adventure then do yourself a favor and be sure to pick up a copy of this book! Do be sure to catch the first book in the series, because you will want to read these wonderful stories in order.

Aiming for Love (Brides of Hope Mountain #1)

Woman of Sunlight (Brides of Hope Mountain #2)

Her Secret Song (Brides of Hope Mountain #3)

Aiming for Love (Brides of Hope Mountain #1) by Mary Connealy

Synopsis:

Josephine Nordegren is one of three sisters who grew up nearly wild in southwestern Colorado. She has the archery skills of Robin Hood and the curiosity of the Little Mermaid, fascinated by but locked away from the forbidden outside world–a world she’s been raised to believe killed her parents. When David Warden, a rancher, brings in a herd much too close to the girls’ secret home, her older sister especially is frightened, but Jo is too interested to stay away.

David’s parents follow soon on his heels, escaping bandits at their ranch. David’s father is wounded and needs shelter. Josephine and her sisters have the only cabin on the mountain. Do they risk stepping into the world to help those in need? Or do they remain separated but safe in the peaks of Hope Mountain?

Aiming for Love (Brides of Hope Mountain #1)

My Thoughts:

What a fantastic introduction to a new series. With true Mary Connealy flair this story unfolds with dynamic characters, rich faith, and a splash of quirky humor. Set in the rugged beauty of the wild Colorado mountains, nature and terrain take on an important role in the story.  Once of both breathtaking beauty and harsh reality. The characters are unique and show great potential for further grown as the series progresses.

Josephine and her sisters are quite an enigma. Raised in seclusion, with a grandmother fearful of the outside world, they have rather unique ideas about things. Proficient with the forest and the natural world around them, yet remarkably guileless and naive when it comes to things most people take for granted.

When the Warden family are driven into hiding, two worlds collide and the very thing that had long been feared is on the sisters’ doorstep. Will curiosity of the unknown or the overpowering fear of the outside world win the raging internal battle? Will the sisters rely on their faith and forge ahead, welcoming this new experience? Or will fear take-hold and send them hastily rushing deeper into hiding?

I enjoyed my time reading this story and getting to know both the Nordegren sisters and the Warden family. I’m looking forward to reading the next book and finding out what happens next!

The Reluctant Warrior (High Sierra Sweethearts #2) by Mary Connealy

Synopsis:

Union army officer Cameron Scott is used to being obeyed, but nothing about this journey to Lake Tahoe has gone as expected. He’s come to fetch his daughter and nephew, and seek revenge on the people who killed his brother. Instead he finds himself trapped by a blizzard with two children who are terrified of him and stubborn but beautiful Gwen Harkness, who he worries may be trying to keep the children.

When danger descends on the cabin where they’re huddled, Cam is hurt trying to protect everyone and now finds Gwen caring for him too. He soon realizes why the kids love her so much and wonders if it might be best for him to move on without them. When she sees his broken heart, Gwen decides to help him win back their affection–and in the process he might just win her heart as well.

My Thoughts:

From the very first page, I was involved in this story and the lives of these characters. I found myself thrown into the action and holding my breath to find out what would happen next.

Gwen is spunky and not afraid to say what’s on her mind and tell things like they are. She doesn’t hold back, and you know where you stand with her. She loves the children and comes to realize that by helping them get to know their father, it will make their lives easier. Little does she realize that her heart may be changed in the process.

Cam is battle-hardened. He is used to giving orders and having them followed without question. But he quickly comes to realize that what has served him well thus far, is now the very thing that is causing him problems. Will he be able to admit his short-comings and ask for help?

Survival is difficult enough on its own in the high Sierra’s, but with a murderer lurking, things have only gotten more difficult. It is only by working together as a team that they can all survive. But will their own personalities get in the way?

I enjoyed my time spent reading this newest book by Mary Connealy. These characters are full of personality and I couldn’t help but feel like I was part of the story right along with them. I would recommend reading the first book, before this one as you would miss out on some back-story. I give this book 4.5 stars and look forward to reading more from Mary Connealy in the near future!

All for Love: Three Historical Romance Novellas of Love and Laughter

Synopsis:

Three of Christian historical fiction’s beloved authors come together in this romantic and humorous collection of novellas featuring prequels to their latest series. New and loyal fans alike will enjoy these novellas previously released only as ebooks. Connealy’s “The Boden Birthright” journeys to the Old West, where ranch hand Chance Boden’s determination to be his own boss is challenged by his employer’s pretty daughter. Hunter’s “A Lady of Esteem” follows a Regency-era young lady whose chance at love and reputation in society are threatened by a nasty rumor. Turano’s “At Your Request” tells of a young woman who is humbled at her newly lowered status in society when she is reunited with the very man whose proposal she rejected.

My Thoughts:

A little something for everyone can be found in this enjoyable collection of stories. From heart-broken, handsome cowboy with a huge heart and an adorable son. To feisty heroines in the Regency era that are sure to keep you on your toes!

I went from gasping from surprise to laughing in merriment! The talented authors in this collection didn’t hold back from writing delightful, page-turning stories that are just the right length when you are needing a little break from the daily hum-drum. The perfect escape back in time to explore a different setting.

A fun trio of stories is sure to bring a smile to your face and keep you turning pages late into the night. I give this collection 4-stars.

I’d love to hear from you:

Have you read any of the books I reviewed this month? If so, did you have a favorite?
What book(s) are you looking forward to reading in May?

I have a full schedule of books I’m looking forward to sharing with you in May!

The Accidental Guardian by Mary Connealy

Synopsis:

When Trace Riley finds the smoldering ruins of a small wagon train, he recognizes the hand behind the attack as the same group who left him as sole survivor years ago. Living off the wilderness since then, he’d finally carved out a home and started a herd–while serving as a self-appointed guardian of the trail, driving off dangerous men. He’d
hoped those days were over, but the latest attack shows he was wrong.

Deborah Harkness saved her younger sister and two toddlers during the attack, and now finds herself at the mercy of her rescuer. Trace offers the only shelter for miles around, and agrees to take them in until she can safely continue. His simple bachelor existence never anticipated kids and women in the picture and their arrival is unsettling–yet enticing.

Working to survive the winter and finally bring justice to the trail, Trace and Deborah find themselves drawn together–yet every day approaches the moment she’ll leave forever.

My Thoughts:

Like a moth to the flame, I was drawn into this book from the cover. The adorable little girl, the rays of sunlight, and the cowboy, all work together along with the title to pull you and leave you wanting more. I had to know the story the lived within the pages of Mary Connealy’s latest novel!

Trace Riley has been guarding the wagon trail in the high Sierra’s for many years. He’s no stranger to the rugged wilderness. He knows what it takes to survive the harsh elements because he’s more than just survived, he’s flourished in these mountains.  If there was ever someone you wanted in your corner, it would be Trace Riley!

Deborah, her sister, and two toddlers are the only survivors of a vicious wagon train attack. Rescued and offered shelter for the winter, will they still wish to leave when spring arrives? Will the criminals from the attack continue on their rampage, or will they be caught in time to prevent others from being harmed?

I have long been a fan of Mary Connealy’s writing, and this newest story didn’t disappoint. The characters are realistic and engaging. You won’t want to put this story down once you start reading it!

(I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)
