Serving Up Love: A Harvey House Brides Collection

About This Collection:

Bestselling novelist Tracie Peterson joins Karen Witemeyer, Regina Jennings, and Jen Turano in this collection of four novellas, each featuring a Harvey Girl heroine. From Kansas to Texas, the Grand Canyon to New Mexico, the stories cross the country with tales of sweet romance and entertaining history.

In Karen Witemeyer’s “More Than a Pretty Face,” a young woman works her hardest to escape poor choices from her youth. Tracie Peterson offers “A Flood of Love,” where reuniting with an old flame after more than a decade offers unexpected results. Regina Jennings’s “Intrigue a la Mode” delights with a tale of a young woman determined to help support her family, despite warnings of danger nearby. And Jen Turano’s “Grand Encounters” heads to the Grand Canyon with a tale of a society belle intent on finding a new life for herself.

My Thoughts:

I loved this super fun collection of stories!  The heroines were filled with just the right amount of spunk and sass, all while having the strong moral character required to work as a Harvey Girl. Each story brought it own unique flair. Somehow I had missed the Judy Garland classic movie “The Harvey Girls”, and reading this fun collection of stories has made me want to find a copy to watch. Can’t get enough of the Harvey Girls!  Although I have a sneaking suspension that the dynamic authors of this collection can not possibly be outdone by Judy Garland.  I mean, how could a movie possibly be any better than this delightful collection from Jen Turano, Regina Jennings, Karen Witemeyer and Tracie Peterson?!

I don’t want to give anything away with these stories, so I’ll just wrap it up by saying that you truly do not want to pass up the opportunity to read and enjoy this fabulous stories!

More Than Words Can Say (Patchwork Family #2) by Karen Witemeyer

Synopsis:

After fulfilling a pledge to a dying friend, Zacharias Hamilton is finally free to live life on his own terms. No family entanglements. No opportunities to disappoint those he cares about. Just the quiet bachelor existence he’s always craved. Until fate snatches his freedom away once again when the baker of his favorite breakfast treat is railroaded by the city council. As hard as he tries to avoid getting involved, he can’t turn a blind eye to her predicament . . . or her adorable dimples.

Abigail Kemp needs a man’s name on her bakery’s deed. A marriage of convenience seems the best solution . . . if it involves a man she can control. Not the stoic lumberman who oozes confidence without saying a word whenever he enters her shop. Control Zacharias Hamilton? She can’t even control her pulse when around him.

When vows are spoken, Abigail’s troubles should be over. Yet threats to the bakery worsen, and darker dangers hound her sister. As trust grows between Zach and Abby, she finds she wants more than his rescue. She wants his heart.

My Thoughts:

I loved every moment spent reading this fun, page-turning story! This story captivated my imagination and the delightful characters captured my heart. I found myself more than once laughing out loud, and talking to the book as if my new character friends could hear me.

After meeting Zacharias in the last book, I was super excited to hold his story in my hands and get to know more about this quietly brooding hero. Zach quickly found his way into my heart. He tends to keep others at arm’s length with his scowls and grunts for answers. But his heart is big and he loves much deeper than he lets on.

Abigail is just such a sweet heroine. I wanted to hug her and invite her over to put up her aching feet and enjoy a cup of tea. I just know we’d hit it off right from the start! Abigail had to grow up fast when her mother died. She has carried the weight of responsibility of her younger sister and the bakery on her shoulders for far too long.

I loved the character growth that we get to see as the story progresses, and how we can each learn and take something away from the story. Maybe you need to hear that God loves you just the way you are, dimples and all. Or Maybe you need to hear that no sin is too big for God to forgive. It could be that you, like me needed to be reminded that we need to wait on God and not run ahead and try to fix the problem.

With fun to be had, lessons to learn, and laugher to enjoy, trust me when I say that you won’t want to miss your opportunity to pick up a copy of this fully engaging story!

More Than Meets the Eye (Patchwork Family #1) by Karen Witemeyer

Synopsis:

Many consider Evangeline Hamilton cursed. Orphaned at a young age and possessing a pair of mismatched eyes–one bright blue, the other dark brown–Eva has fought to find her way in a world that constantly rejects her. Yet the support of even one person can help overcome the world’s judgments, and Eva has two–Seth and Zach, two former orphans she now counts as brothers.

Seeking justice against the man who stole his birthright and destroyed his family, Logan Fowler arrives in 1880s Pecan Gap, Texas, to confront Zach Hamilton, the hardened criminal responsible for his father’s death. Only instead of finding a solitary ruthless gambler, he discovers a man not much older than himself with an unusual family. When Zach’s sister, Evangeline, insists on dousing Logan with sunshine every time their paths cross, Logan finds his quest completely derailed. Who is truly responsible for his lost legacy, and will restoring the past satisfy if it means forfeiting a future with Evangeline?

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed every moment of this story. From the heart-wrenching prologue to the very last scene the characters come to life and lived in my imagination. Reading this story is like watching the movie play out in your mind.

Lively, witty conversations, exciting adventure and mystery, tender heartfelt moments of family love and a sweet budding friendship that grows into love. This story has it all!

Each character is endearing and unique. They all have their own hardships and burdens they carry. The Heroine Evangeline (Evie) may have two different colored eyes, and she may be considered an outcast by the society standards, but she doesn’t let that drag her down. She is a ray of sunshine and has a tender heart for those who are hurting. She is a champion of the underdog.

A story about true beauty as well as about loving others just as they are. Offering forgiveness, even when it’s not asked for. I simply didn’t want to see this wonderful story end. I give this story 5-stars and am eagerly looking forward to the next story from Karen!

(I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)
