The Light at Wyndcliff (Cornwall #3) by Sarah E. Ladd

About this book:

In the third book of this sweet Regency Cornwall series, one young man must search for truth among the debris of multiple shipwrecks on his newly inherited property.

When Liam Twethewey inherits the ancient Wyndcliff Hall in Pevlyn, Cornwall, he sets a goal of fulfilling his late great-uncle’s dream of opening a china clay pit on the estate’s moorland. When he arrives, however, a mysterious shipwreck on his property—along with even more mysterious survivors—puts his plans on hold.

Evelyn Bray has lived in Pevlyn her entire life. After her grandfather’s fall from fortune, he humbled himself and accepted the position of steward at Wyndcliff Hall. Evelyn’s mother, embarrassed by the reduction of wealth and status, left Pevlyn in search of a better life for them both, but in spite of her promise, never returns. Evelyn is left to navigate an uncertain path with an even more uncertain future.

When the mysteries surrounding the shipwreck survivors intensify, Liam and Evelyn are thrown together as they attempt to untangle a web of deceit and secrets. But as they separate the truths from the lies, they quickly learn that their surroundings—and the people in it—are not as they seem. Liam and Evelyn are each tested, and as a romance buds between them, they must decide if their love is strong enough to overcome their growing differences.

My Thoughts:

Come away to the sea-swept coast and the wild moor’s of England in this enchanting story of mystery and secrets. Steeped in history and shrouded in secrets this exciting story is sure to pull you in and keep you turning pages late into the night. Who needs TV and movies when you have this delightful book to keep you entertained?! Your imagination is sure to run wild as you cozy in with this truly engaging story.

I found myself talking to the characters in the story while I read, as if they could hear me. This story so captured my imagination that I felt like I was in it with Liam and Evelyn. On more than one occasion wishing I could give a good shake to one or a friendly hug of encouragement to another. By the end of the story I was both satisfied with the outcome and heart-sore to leave the Wyndcliff Hall, Liam, Evelyn and the others behind.

(I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher. I am not required to write a positive review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.)

The Lost Lieutenant (Serendipity & Secrets #1) by Erica Vetsch

About this book:

He’s doing what he can to save the Prince Regent’s life . . . but can he save his new marriage as well? Evan Eldridge never meant to be a war hero–he just wanted to fight Napoleon for the future of his country. And he certainly didn’t think that saving the life of a peer would mean being made the Earl of Whitelock. But when the life you save is dear to the Prince Regent, things can change in a hurry.

Now Evan has a new title, a manor house in shambles, and a stranger for a bride, all thrust upon him by a grateful ruler. What he doesn’t have are all his memories. Traumatized as a result of his wounds and bravery on the battlefield, Evan knows there’s something he can’t quite remember. It’s important, dangerous–and if he doesn’t recall it in time, will jeopardize not only his marriage but someone’s very life.

Readers who enjoy Julie Klassen, Carolyn Miller, and Kristi Ann Hunter will love diving into this brand-new Regency series filled with suspense, aristocratic struggles, and a firm foundation of faith.

My Thoughts:

This is the first book I’ve ready from Erica Vetsch, and I can honestly say that I’m eagerly anticipating reading more from her in the future! If ever there was a binge worthy book, this is it! Right from the very first chapter I was swept off my feet and into this exciting story.

Evan Eldridge is such a swoony hero! Beyond his own struggles, he valiantly fights to protect others. Yes, he makes mistakes, but he owns up to them. And while his past and where he comes from defines him in the eyes of others, he finds a way to rise above that and blaze his own path.

This isn’t just another marriage of connivence story set in the Regency period. This story stands head and shoulders above the others. Witty dialogue, exciting adventure, spies, a secret-agent, tender romance, and page-turning drama are sure to warm you heart and keep you reading long past your bedtime.  Snag your copy to today and settle in for a story that you won’t want to put down!

(I receive complimentary books from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)

The Thief of Lanwyn Manor (Cornwall #2) by Sarah E. Ladd

In Regency England an advantageous match could set up a lady for life. Julia knows Matthew Blake, copper mine owner and very eligible bachelor, is the gentleman she should set her eyes upon. But why can’t she steal her gaze away from his younger brother, Isaac?

Synopsis:

Cornwall, England, 1818

Julia Twethewey needs a diversion to mend her broken heart, so when her cousin invites her to Lanwyn Manor, Julia eagerly accepts. The manor is located at the heart of Cornwall’s mining industry, and as a guest Julia is swept into its intricate world. It’s not long, though, before she realizes something dark lurks within the home’s ancient halls.

As a respected mine owner’s younger son, Isaac Blake is determined to keep his late father’s legacy alive through the family business, despite his brother’s careless attitude. In order to save their livelihood—and that of the people around them—the brothers approach the master of Lanwyn Manor with plans to bolster the floundering local industry. Isaac can’t deny his attraction to the man’s charming niece, but his brother has made clear his intentions to court the lovely visitor. And Isaac knows his place.

When tragedy strikes, mysteries arise, and valuables go missing, Julia and Isaac find they are pulled together in a swirl of strange circumstances, but despite their best efforts to bow to social expectations, their hearts aren’t so keen to surrender.

Sweet Regency Romance
Full-length novel, approximately 90,000 words
Second in the Cornwall series, but can be read alone

Perfect for fans of Poldark, Sarah Ladd’s latest Regency romance, The Thief of Lanwyn Manor, explores Cornwall, England, and the secrets within one of its historic manor houses.

The Thief of Lanwyn Manor (Cornwall #2)

My Thoughts:

What a fantastic story filled with unexpected twists and turns. I was kept on the razor edge, turning pages expectantly to find out what would happen next and kept guessing until the end! I’ve read and enjoyed many of Sarah E. Ladd’s books, but this has got to be my favorite.  If you enjoy regency period stories with mystery and intrigue, then do yourself a favor and snag a copy of this book to enjoy!

While this is the second story in the Cornwall series, it easily stands alone. There are a few refrences to characters we previously met in book one. But you could easily jump right in with book two if you so wish. Fans of Poldark and Jane Austen will be blissfully enamored with this new story! A rumored treasure, shadowy figures, whispers in the walls. Secrets abound and surprises await!

(I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.)

Caught by Surprise (Apart from the Crowd #3) by Jen Turano

Synopsis:

Miss Temperance Flowerdew is on her way to work when a stranger suddenly grabs her off the street and sends her on a Chicago-bound train before she can figure out what happened.

When Mr. Gilbert Cavendish is called upon to rescue a missing woman, he follows the trail to Chicago only to discover that the woman is his good friend Temperance. Before they can discover who was behind the abduction, they’re seen alone together by a New York society matron, putting their reputations at risk.

Gilbert is willing to propose marriage–except Temperance will have none of it. She’s finally stepped out of the shadow of her relations and won’t give up her independence. But when it becomes clear the misunderstanding in Chicago has escalated into a threat on her life and followed her to New York, accepting Gilbert’s help in solving the mystery may lead to more than she ever could have dreamed.

My Thoughts:

This is such a fun and engaging story! I was hooked from the very first page when Temperance is kidnapped right off the street and finds herself whisked away on a train bound for Chicago.

Temperance Flowerdew quickly became my favorite wallflower. Hidden behind her quiet reserve beats the heart of a lioness. The loss of her parents affected her deeply and as a result, she hid within herself. It is only at being reunited with a childhood friend that she blooms and returns to her feisty personality. She is independent, impulsive and sassy!

With a fun lively cast of characters, a mystery to solve and lots of laughs, this a story you will want on your keeper shelf to pull out to enjoy again and again! I give this delightful book 5-stars and strongly encourage you to pick up a copy!

All for Love: Three Historical Romance Novellas of Love and Laughter

Synopsis:

Three of Christian historical fiction’s beloved authors come together in this romantic and humorous collection of novellas featuring prequels to their latest series. New and loyal fans alike will enjoy these novellas previously released only as ebooks. Connealy’s “The Boden Birthright” journeys to the Old West, where ranch hand Chance Boden’s determination to be his own boss is challenged by his employer’s pretty daughter. Hunter’s “A Lady of Esteem” follows a Regency-era young lady whose chance at love and reputation in society are threatened by a nasty rumor. Turano’s “At Your Request” tells of a young woman who is humbled at her newly lowered status in society when she is reunited with the very man whose proposal she rejected.

My Thoughts:

A little something for everyone can be found in this enjoyable collection of stories. From heart-broken, handsome cowboy with a huge heart and an adorable son. To feisty heroines in the Regency era that are sure to keep you on your toes!

I went from gasping from surprise to laughing in merriment! The talented authors in this collection didn’t hold back from writing delightful, page-turning stories that are just the right length when you are needing a little break from the daily hum-drum. The perfect escape back in time to explore a different setting.

A fun trio of stories is sure to bring a smile to your face and keep you turning pages late into the night. I give this collection 4-stars.

A Mother For His Family by: Susanne Dietze

Synopsis:

Lady Helena Stanhope’s reputation is in tatters…and she’s lost any hope for a “respectable” ton marriage. An arranged union is the only solution. But once Helena weds formidable Scottish widower John Gordon, Lord Ardoch, and encounters his four mischievous children, she’s determined to help her new, ever-surprising family. Even if she’s sure love is too much to ask for.

All John needs is someone to mother his admittedly unruly brood. He never imagined that beautiful Lady Helena would be a woman of irresistible spirit, caring and warmth.
Or that facing down their pasts would give them so much in common. Now, as danger threatens, John will do whatever it takes to convince Helena their future together—and his love—are for always.

My Thoughts:

This delightful story captured my attention and imagination right from the start and kept me greedily turning pages late into the night. With charismatic characters and an engaging plot line, this story is one that you will want to make sure to read. The mystery behind the letters kept me guessing right until the end.

At the beginning, I found myself heart-sore for Helena, for her history and for how she felt lost and alone. As the story progressed I found myself cheering for her as she grew in confidence. She was misunderstood by her peers, and early on she had allowed the opinion of others and how they viewed her, to dictate how she saw herself. Given the opportunity to have a better circle of influence she grew and flourished. It was refreshing to watch her transformation.

What a fantastic hero we find in John. He has his shortcomings, but he also grows. He isn’t too proud or stubborn to admit when he is wrong. He is strong yet tender, he is firm yet kind. John is quite the swoon-worthy hero!

Often when we look back at history and think of the dazzling parties, the impressive mansions, and beautiful dresses worn by the wealthy. We often fail to consider what it would really be like to grow up in a home where your parents did not have an active role in raising you. Children were often closer to the nanny and the servants than to their parents. More often than not Marriages were arrangements agreed upon to make money, or to gain political power and standing. Love was often a foreign concept, often thought of as a fairytale.

I loved the tender message of God’s amazing love for us and the reminder that we are never alone. God loves us beyond our wildest imagination and is always with us. You can never stray too far away, that He isn’t there waiting for you with arms open wide.

If you enjoy sweet stories full of substance and emotion, then you won’t want to miss out on reading this book. I look forward to reading more stories from Susanne Dietze in the future and I give this fabulous story 5 stars. I encourage you to pick up a copy to enjoy at your earliest convenience.

(I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)
