Nicole (Sewing in SoCal #3) by Sarah Monzon

About this book:

Who has time to date when she’s trying to raise a miniature human by herself AND save the planet from its irresponsible inhabitants? Not to mention my winning personality (snort) and my curves-have-curves figure (eyeroll) don’t exactly attract the opposite sex. Unfortunately, none of these reasons have stopped my best friends and SoCal sewing sisters from taking on the archaic role of matchmakers, and they’re not beneath a little bribery if that’s what it takes to get my cooperation. Let’s just say everyone has their weak spot, and donations to my favourite charities is mine.

If I were to consider a romantic relationship, my dream guy certainly wouldn’t be immature, everything-is-a-game Dr. Drew Bauer. The man raises my body temperature faster than global warming does the Earth’s! But life seems determined to keep throwing us together, especially now that one of my SoCal sewing sisters is engaged to his best friend, in which case there can only be one of two outcomes:

1. I kill him in a fit of annoyance.

2. My common sense escapes me, and I fall in love with him.

Honestly, I’m not sure which would be worse.

My Thoughts:

If you enjoy romantic comedy with depth and lots of heart, then do yourself a favor and be sure to snag a copy of Author Sarah Monzon’s newest release Nicole. All of the stories in this collection are page-turning delight.

At first glance Nicole comes across as a zealous environmentalists, a serious, no non-sense kind of woman. As a single mother with a young daughter, she rarely lets her hair down to have fun. Honestly, the word fun isn’t even in her wheel-house. Nicole has a heart of gold and as the story progresses and Nicole’s heart softens even more.

Authentic and realistic these characters found their way into my heart. More than once I found myself talking to them, as if they could hear me. I laughed out loud on more several times, startling my family and garnering strange looks.

I especially appreciated the Biblical truths artfully sprinkled through the story and tucked not just into the lines, but into the very hearts of the characters. They not only lived Christian lives, but they had hidden in their hearts a light that shined out to others.

Far better than any Hallmark movie, this book is one you won’t want to pass up! I’m eagerly anticipating more delightful stories from Sarah Monzon!

Molly: A Sweet Romantic Comedy (Sewing in SoCall #1) by Sarah Monzon

About the Book:

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I absolutely refuse to tell a lie no matter the consequences. So don’t ask me a direct question unless you’re prepared for a direct answer—that’s something my SoCal sewing girlfriends have learned the hard way.
But who would have thought my honesty policy would get me fired from my job at the preschool? Or that a desperate—and not to mention devastatingly handsome—single father of one of my (now-former) students would hire me that same day as a nanny for his daughter?
I’m an education professional. How hard can taking care of a four-year-old and her over-stressed, over-worked father be?

My Thoughts:

What a wonderful lighthearted and fun story! I completely enjoyed my time with these engaging characters. Chloe stole my heart with her 4-year old zest and personality. Absolutely adorable and completely realistic, she reminded me of my nieces.

Molly & Ben have the bet met-cute. I especially enjoyed their witty banter and their growing friendship. Right from the very first chapter, this story captured my imagination and kept my attention all the way until the last words on the page. This story got me out of my reading slump.

Do yourself a favor and snag a copy of this entertaining story to enjoy today!

Flights of Fancy (American Heiresses #1) by Jen Turano

Synopsis:

Miss Isadora Delafield may be an heiress, but her life is far from carefree. When her mother begins pressuring her to marry an elderly and uncouth duke, she escapes from the high society world she’s always known and finds herself to be an unlikely candidate for a housekeeper position in rural Pennsylvania.

Mr. Ian MacKenzie is known for his savvy business sense and has built his reputation and fortune completely on his own merits. But when his adopted parents are in need of a new housekeeper and Isadora is thrown into his path, he’s unexpectedly charmed by her unconventional manner.

Neither Isadora nor Ian expected to find the other so intriguing, but when mysterious incidents on the farm and the truth of Isadora’s secret threaten those they love, they’ll have to set aside everything they thought they wanted for a chance at happy-ever-after.

Flights of Fancy

My Thoughts:

What would you do to avoid an unwanted, determined suitor? Would you leave behind the “world” you know and go into hiding?

Miss Isadora Delafield is accustom to being the most sought after heiress. However, most unwanted suitors are fairly easy to shake. Until her path crosses that of an elderly Duke, who is more determined to acquire an heiress and produce an heir than her typical suitors. No one would think to find a spoiled heiress filling the role of a housekeeper.

In true Jen Turno style, hilarity ensues! There is just so much to enjoy within this story! Along with the characters, I felt a range of emotions. I laughed out loud, I held my breath in anticipation, I felt upset about the unfair treatment of those less fortunate, and my heart broke with the loss of loved ones. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep the story flowing and to keep me on my toes!

There is true depth to the characters. It is fun to watch as they discover things about themselves and grow into stronger individuals. The storyline is fun and believable. The heroine is a true bibliophile and I enjoyed the nods to literary greats within the story.

There is plenty to love about this latest story from Jen Turano. With witty dialogue, vivid characters and plenty of fun, this story is one for the keeper shelf! I encourage you to pick up a copy and dive right in, you won’t be sorry!

The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck by Bethany Turner

Synopsis:

Becoming a Christian is the best and worst thing that has ever happened to Sarah Hollenbeck. Best because, well, that’s obvious. Worst because, up to this point, she’s made her very comfortable living as a well-known, bestselling author of steamy romance novels that would leave the members of her new church blushing. Now Sarah is trying to reconcile her past with the future she’s chosen. She’s still under contract with her publisher and on the hook with her enormous fan base for the kind of book she’s not sure she can write anymore. She’s beginning to think that the church might frown on her tithing on royalties from a “scandalous” book. And the fact that she’s falling in love with her pastor doesn’t make things any easier.

With a powerful voice, penetrating insight, and plenty of wit, Bethany Turner explodes onto the scene with a debut that isn’t afraid to deal with the thorny realities of living the Christian life.

My Thoughts:

The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck is written in first person point of view.  The beginning build-up, for me, was a little slow. The part where Sarah decides to be a Christian and give her heart to God in one brief paragraph and was so sudden, I had to go back and read it again, because I glossed over it the first time.

I enjoyed the friendship between Sarah and Piper. Piper is such a level-headed, character, she really adds to the story and gives some stability to Sarah, who at times tends to let her imagination run away with her.

On Sarah’s first visit to the church, she literally runs smack into a man who she feels an instant and surprisingly strong attraction to. She is surprised to find that he is the new pastor of the church, and thus starts the comedy as Sarah struggles to navigate her way through a relationship that she never saw coming.

When it’s all said and done, I enjoyed reading this debut story from Bethany Turner and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

(I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)
