SPOTLIGHT: Dreams of Savannah by Roseanna M. White

About the book:

Cordelia Owens can weave a hopeful dream around anything and is well used to winning the hearts of everyone in Savannah with her whimsy. Even when she receives word that her sweetheart has been lost during a raid on a Yankee vessel, she clings to hope and comes up with many a romantic tale of his eventual homecoming to reassure his mother and sister.
But Phineas Dunn finds nothing redemptive in the first horrors of war. Struggling for months to make it home alive, he returns to Savannah injured and cynical, and all too sure that he is not the hero Cordelia seems determined to make him. Matters of black and white don’t seem so simple anymore to Phin, and despite her best efforts, Delia’s smiles can’t erase all the complications in his life. And when Fort Pulaski falls and the future wavers, they both must decide where the dreams of a new America will take them, and if they will go together.

A Portrait of Loyalty (The Codebreakers #3) by Roseanna M. White

About this book:

Zivon Marin was one of Russia’s top cryptographers, until the October Revolution tore apart his world. Forced to flee after speaking out against Lenin and separated from his brother along the way, he arrives in England driven by a growing anger and determined to offer his services to the Brits.

Lily Blackwell sees the world best through the lens of a camera–and possesses unsurpassed skill when it comes to retouching and recreating photographs. With her father’s connections in propaganda, she’s recruited to the intelligence division, even though her mother would disapprove.

After Captain Blackwell invites Zivon to dinner one evening, a friendship blooms between him and Lily. He sees patterns in what she deems chaos; she sees beauty in a world he thought destroyed. But both have secrets they’re unwilling to share. When her photographs reveal that someone has been following Zivon, his loyalties are called into question–and his enemies are discovered to be far closer than he’d feared.

My Thoughts:

From the first page until the last this delightful book held my imagination captive. The heart of these characters seized my own and I felt part of their story. Roseanna M. White has expertly crafted a delightful work of art in this story. I loved how we see the world through Lily Blackwell’s eyes as she photographs the world around her. This character came to life in this story and at one pivotal moment, my heart broke right alongside hers.

The twists and turns in the story had me holding my breath and rapidly turning pages to see what would happen next. I said up late reading until my eyes turned blurry more than once because I just didn’t want to put this book down! I highly recommend this story!

(I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher. I am not required to write a positive review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.)

On Wings of Devotion (The Codebreakers #2) by Roseanna M. White

About the Book:

All of England thinks Phillip Camden a monster–a man who deliberately caused the deaths of his squadron. But as nurse Arabelle Denler watches the so-dubbed “Black Heart” every day, she sees something far different: a hurting man desperate for mercy. And when their paths twist together and he declares himself her new protector, she realizes she has her own role to play in his healing.

Phillip Camden would have preferred to die that day with his squadron rather than be recruited to the Admiralty’s codebreaking division. The threats he receives daily are no great surprise and, in his opinion, well deserved. What comes as a shock is the reborn desire to truly live that Arabelle inspires in him.

But when an old acquaintance shows up and seems set on using him in a plot that has the codebreakers of Room 40 in a frenzy, new affections are put to the test.

On Wings of Devotion (The Codebreakers #2)

My Thoughts:

What a fantastic page-turning adventure that kept me up past my bedtime, eager to find out what would happen next! Roseanna M. White sure knows how to spin a story that entertains and that you won’t soon forget. These dynamic characters wove themselves around my heart!

Our hero, Phillip Camden grew so very much within this story. From a grumpy, hard-edged man that carried around a millstone of regret and anger, to one who learned how to give his past, his sins, to a savior who loved and cared for him. A man who kept everyone at arm’s length, to a man who was able to make friends, and fall in love. Oh, and what a heart-warming love story it is!

I felt welcomed into the story, the very scenes vibrant and alive. I walked the streets, heard the planes flying overhead, smelled the smoke from buildings that were bombed, and lived the story right alongside these amazing characters.

If you enjoy reading inspirational historical romance, then you are sure to fall in love with this story and want it for your “keeper shelf”, to pull out and enjoy again!

The Number of Love (Codebreakers #1) by Roseanna M. White

Synopsis:

Three years into the Great War, England’s greatest asset is their intelligence network—field agents risking their lives to gather information, and codebreakers able to crack every German telegram. Margot De Wilde thrives in the environment of the secretive Room 40, where she spends her days deciphering intercepted messages. But when her world is turned upside down by an unexpected loss, for the first time in her life numbers aren’t enough.

Drake Elton returns wounded from the field, followed by an enemy that just won’t give up. He’s smitten quickly by the too-intelligent Margot, but how to convince a girl who lives entirely in her mind that sometimes life’s answers lie in the heart?

Amidst biological warfare, encrypted letters, and a German spy who wants to destroy not just them, but others they love, Margot and Drake will have to work together to save them all from the very secrets that brought them together.

The Number of Love (Codebreakers #1)

My Thoughts:

Once I started reading this story, I couldn’t put it down! Roseanna White has penned another delightful story, with dynamic characters that come to life within the pages and quickly become as real as if you were in the action right alongside them.

Margot knows what she wants and she isn’t afraid to go after it with everything she has. She is a brilliant mathematician and codebreaker. Her work in room 40 cracking codes for the Brittish Intelligence Office is paramount in helping to change the tide against the German forces in World War I.

Drake Elton is used to reading people upon meeting them, but Margot is unlike anyone he’s ever met before. After their brief encounter, her dark eyes and snapping whit capture his attention and linger in his memory. When their paths cross again, sparks are sure to fly.

There is so much to love about this story! Historical details, encrypted letters, biological warfare, rogue spies, adventure, drama, love, and dynamic characters that take ahold of your heart and don’t let go.  You won’t want to miss a moment of this page-turning adventure!

The King’s Mercy by Lori Benton

TheKingsMercyWhen captured rebel Scotsman Alex MacKinnon is granted the king’s mercy–exile to the Colony of North Carolina–he’s indentured to Englishman Edmund Carey as a blacksmith. Against his will Alex is drawn into the struggles of Carey’s slaves–and those of his stepdaughter, Joanna Carey. A mistress with a servant’s heart, Joanna is expected to wed her father’s overseer, Phineas Reeves, but finds herself drawn instead to the new blacksmith. As their unlikely relationship deepens, successive tragedies strike the Careys. When blame falls unfairly upon Alex he flees to the distant mountains where he encounters Reverend Pauling, itinerate preacher and friend of the Careys, now a prisoner of the Cherokees. Haunted by his abandoning of Joanna, Alex tries to settle into life with the Cherokees, until circumstances thwart yet another attempt to forge his freedom and he’s faced with the choice that’s long hounded him: continue down his rebellious path or embrace the faith of a man like Pauling, whose freedom in Christ no man can steal. But the price of such mercy is total surrender, and perhaps Alex’s very life.

The King’s Mercy

A Reluctant Bride by Jody Hedlund

AReluctantBrideLiving in London’s poorest slum, Mercy Wilkins has little hope of a better life. When she’s offered an opportunity to join a bride ship sailing to British Columbia, she agrees. After witnessing so much painful heartache and loss in the slums, the bride ship is her only prospect to escape a bleak future, not only for herself but, she hopes, someday for her sister.

Wealthy and titled Joseph Colville leaves home and takes to the sea in order to escape the pain of losing his family. As ship’s surgeon, he’s in charge of the passengers’ welfare aboard the Tynemouth, including sixty brides-to-be. He has no immediate intention of settling down, but when Mercy becomes his assistant, the two must fight against a forbidden love.

With hundreds of single men congregating on the shore eager to claim a bride from the Tynemouth, will Mercy and Joseph lose their chance at true love, or will they be able to overcome the obstacles that threaten to keep them apart?

More Than Words Can Say by Karen Witemeyer

MoreThanWordsCanSayAfter fulfilling a pledge to a dying friend, Zacharias Hamilton is finally free to live life on his own terms. No family entanglements. No opportunities to disappoint those he cares about. Just the quiet bachelor existence he’s always craved. Until fate snatches his freedom away once again when the baker of his favorite breakfast treat is railroaded by the city council. As hard as he tries to avoid getting involved, he can’t turn a blind eye to her predicament . . . or her adorable dimples.

Abigail Kemp needs a man’s name on her bakery’s deed. A marriage of convenience seems the best solution . . . if it involves a man she can control. Not the stoic lumberman who oozes confidence without saying a word whenever he enters her shop. Control Zacharias Hamilton? She can’t even control her pulse when around him.

When vows are spoken, Abigail’s troubles should be over. Yet threats to the bakery worsen, and darker dangers hound her sister. As trust grows between Zach and Abby, she finds she wants more than his rescue. She wants his heart.
