Nicole (Sewing in SoCal #3) by Sarah Monzon

About this book:

Who has time to date when she’s trying to raise a miniature human by herself AND save the planet from its irresponsible inhabitants? Not to mention my winning personality (snort) and my curves-have-curves figure (eyeroll) don’t exactly attract the opposite sex. Unfortunately, none of these reasons have stopped my best friends and SoCal sewing sisters from taking on the archaic role of matchmakers, and they’re not beneath a little bribery if that’s what it takes to get my cooperation. Let’s just say everyone has their weak spot, and donations to my favourite charities is mine.

If I were to consider a romantic relationship, my dream guy certainly wouldn’t be immature, everything-is-a-game Dr. Drew Bauer. The man raises my body temperature faster than global warming does the Earth’s! But life seems determined to keep throwing us together, especially now that one of my SoCal sewing sisters is engaged to his best friend, in which case there can only be one of two outcomes:

1. I kill him in a fit of annoyance.

2. My common sense escapes me, and I fall in love with him.

Honestly, I’m not sure which would be worse.

My Thoughts:

If you enjoy romantic comedy with depth and lots of heart, then do yourself a favor and be sure to snag a copy of Author Sarah Monzon’s newest release Nicole. All of the stories in this collection are page-turning delight.

At first glance Nicole comes across as a zealous environmentalists, a serious, no non-sense kind of woman. As a single mother with a young daughter, she rarely lets her hair down to have fun. Honestly, the word fun isn’t even in her wheel-house. Nicole has a heart of gold and as the story progresses and Nicole’s heart softens even more.

Authentic and realistic these characters found their way into my heart. More than once I found myself talking to them, as if they could hear me. I laughed out loud on more several times, startling my family and garnering strange looks.

I especially appreciated the Biblical truths artfully sprinkled through the story and tucked not just into the lines, but into the very hearts of the characters. They not only lived Christian lives, but they had hidden in their hearts a light that shined out to others.

Far better than any Hallmark movie, this book is one you won’t want to pass up! I’m eagerly anticipating more delightful stories from Sarah Monzon!

Molly: A Sweet Romantic Comedy (Sewing in SoCall #1) by Sarah Monzon

About the Book:

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I absolutely refuse to tell a lie no matter the consequences. So don’t ask me a direct question unless you’re prepared for a direct answer—that’s something my SoCal sewing girlfriends have learned the hard way.
But who would have thought my honesty policy would get me fired from my job at the preschool? Or that a desperate—and not to mention devastatingly handsome—single father of one of my (now-former) students would hire me that same day as a nanny for his daughter?
I’m an education professional. How hard can taking care of a four-year-old and her over-stressed, over-worked father be?

My Thoughts:

What a wonderful lighthearted and fun story! I completely enjoyed my time with these engaging characters. Chloe stole my heart with her 4-year old zest and personality. Absolutely adorable and completely realistic, she reminded me of my nieces.

Molly & Ben have the bet met-cute. I especially enjoyed their witty banter and their growing friendship. Right from the very first chapter, this story captured my imagination and kept my attention all the way until the last words on the page. This story got me out of my reading slump.

Do yourself a favor and snag a copy of this entertaining story to enjoy today!

With You Here

Holy Roman Empire, 1527

Early morning light shafted through the single window of Christyne von Heidelbraum’s bedchamber, spearing the lingering darkness of the clining night, yet doing little to battle the chill that refused to welcome the coming day.

With You Here (Carrington Family #4) by Sarah Monzon

Synopsis:

Holy Roman Empire, 1527
In the wake of Martin Luther’s religious reforms, Princess Christyne von Heidelbraum is compelled by her sense of duty to help ease the burden of her people. When she stumbles upon a dying man in the woods, she vows to aid him—even when she discovers the arrow shot in his back was put there by a heretic hunter. With both her physical and spiritual well-being in danger, she must choose between conscience or adhering to the laws of the Empire.

Present Day
Doubting her calling to become a hospital chaplain, Amber Carrington takes time off from her theology studies to volunteer with refugees in Germany. Working with children, making a difference, reconnecting with the conviction that once drove her—these were her expectations. An instant attraction to a professional soccer player wasn’t a part of the plan…and she can’t let him distract her from her purpose.
As a new Christian, Seth Marshall is determined to put his popularity as a world-renowned footballer to good use. Unfortunately, old habits and public opinions are hard to overcome. When he falls hard and fast for Amber Carrington, his former life—and her no-dating policy—may block his perfect shot for the woman he loves.

With You Here (A Carrington Family Novel #4)

My Thoughts:

There is so much to love about this multi-faceted story! I’d be hard-pressed to choose a favorite timeline, as they are both engaging and endearing.  The characters are dynamic and they each have their own compelling story to tell. I was captivated right from the start and held in delight as each beguiling moment was expertly revealed with eloquent details that swept me off my feet and into the very heart of the stories.

I enjoyed traveling back to the reformation period and gaining a first-hand view at what it must have been like to live during such turbulent times. The historical details and vibrant characters pulled me in and had me holding my breath on more than one occasion. I often thought of my own ancestors who were French Huguenots and left France due to persecution. I was reminded of the fact that God’s people have been persecuted throughout history and even still today.

I really enjoyed getting to know Amber Carrington. The Carrington brothers each have their own wonderful stories, but I have long anticipated getting to know Amber. I appreciate that Amber has chosen to follow God’s calling to minister to others and share her faith as a chaplain. The tender love story between Amber and Seth both warmed my heart and kept me on the edge of my seat hoping everything would work out!

I have loved all of the stories in The Carrington Family series and strongly encourage you to pick up a copy for yourself to enjoy!

Literarily For Keeps by Sarah Monzon

She only has to pretend to be married for five days. What’s the worst that could happen?

Synopsis:

Literature professor Ashleigh Darmody never imagined her life would turn into a classic trope, but that’s exactly what happens when her sister Claire calls with a bizarre request–quickly find a fake husband. Backstory is a powerful thing, and Ashleigh’s has plenty of shadows, but is her past so shady that it requires an elaborate scheme to ensure Claire’s prospective father-in-law, renowned TV evangelist Ken Abrams, will give her his blessing to marry his son?
Already divorced from a man who turned out to be other than he claimed, Ashleigh now has to pretend to be blissfully married to a stranger for the next five days. But when the lines of fiction and reality blur with each tick of the clock, could a temporary deal turn into something for keeps?

My Thoughts:

The first thing that drew me to this book was the whimsical cover and of course knowing that I have loved Sarah Monzon’s previous books, I just HAD to buy this one too! I was charmed right from the start and wrapped up in the lives of the characters.

This story moves right along and kept me fully engaged. I was not ready to reach the end of the story, yet felt it was all tied up well. I laughed out loud several times and enjoyed every moment spent in the pages of this delightful story.

While this story deals with some difficult topics, It is done so with grace and poise. A gentle reminder of the damage that is done when people allow their prejudice and judgment to wedge a divide. With a silent invitation to take a moment to do a little personal soul-searching of our own and answer some tough questions. Do we as Christians accept others even in their sinful state? Or do we expect them to clean up some of their sins before we will accept them?

Sarah Monzon manages to pack a lot of fun and yet seriousness into this wonderful novella. I give this story 4.5 stars and encourage you to snag a copy for yourself and a friend as soon as possible!

(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I am not required to write a positive review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.)
