Boston, 1773
TheTeaChestEmma Malcolm’s father is staunchly loyal to the crown, but Emma’s heart belongs to Noah Winslow, a lowly printer’s assistant and Patriot. But her father has promised her hand to Samuel Clarke, a rapacious and sadistic man. As his fiance, she would have to give up Noah and the friends who have become like family to her–as well as the beliefs she has come to embrace.

After Emma is drawn into the treasonous Boston Tea Party, Samuel blackmails her with evidence that condemns each participant, including Noah. Emma realizes she must do whatever it takes to protect those she loves, even if it means giving up the life she desires and becoming Samuel’s wife.

Present Day
Lieutenant Hayley Ashworth is determined to be the first woman inducted into the elite Navy SEALs. But before her dream can be realized, she must return to Boston in order to put the abuse and neglect of her childhood behind her. When an unexpected encounter with the man she once loved leads to the discovery of a tea chest and the document hidden within, she wonders if perhaps true strength and freedom are buried deeper than she first realized.

Two women, separated by centuries, must find the strength to fight for love and freedom. . . and discover a heritage of courage and faith.

Now let us jump right into our fun interview! Be sure to stick around till the very end to enter the GIVAWAY! Join me in giving a warm welcome to Author, Heidi Chiavaroli!

beach-1979238_640Q:  What is your favorite season, and why?

Heidi:  Summer definitely! Long days, beach, beautiful walks on the water…everything about it energizes me!

Trisha:  I too love summer! Longer days, lots of sunshine, warm temperatures.

the-drink-3058230_1920Q:  What is the best part of your day?

Heidi:  I love mornings, particularly sunny ones. Though I certainly enjoy pulling on a pair of warm jammies and settling in for the night with my family as well.

Trisha:  Yes, the bookends of the day!

books-315677_640Q:  What are some of your favorite CF reads from 10 years ago, or further?

Heidi:  My favorites are Francine Rivers’ Mark of the Lion series and Redeeming Love. I also really enjoyed The Four Seasons Collection by Catherine Palmer and Gary Chapman.

Trisha:  Those are all fantastic books!

podcasts-2633018_640Q:  If we took a peek at your “recently played” music, who would we find?

Heidi:  Oh dear! Okay, so just yesterday I had a small solo dance session in my kitchen (great for de-stressing) so you’d find some party dance songs like Shut Up and Dance, Cupid Shuffle, and Sweet Caroline.

Add to that my favorite worship song No Longer Slaves, some Mercy Me songs (because we’re going to a concert in a couple weeks!) and The Greatest Showman soundtrack.

Trisha:  Sometimes you just need to have a solo dance session in the kitchen!! Enjoy the Mercy Me concert!

desk-2158142_640Q:  What do you love about this story?

Heidi:  I love that this story explores two strong women who long to fight for freedom. They both do some gutsy things for their country (Hayley in trying to become the first woman Navy SEAL and Emma in going against her family to support the Patriots and aid in the dumping of the tea), and yet they both struggle internally with what it means to be truly strong.

Trisha:  Yes, I too loved the strong ladies in this story!

runner-1863202_640Q:  Which character took you by surprise?

Heidi:  Both Emma and Hayley surprised me in different ways (that’s what happens when you don’t plot well, I guess!) but I think in the end it was Hayley that surprised me the most.

Trisha:  I too was surprised by Hayley the most, in a good way!

love-2614754_640Q:  What is something you hope readers will tell others about this story?

Heidi:  That it showed them hope in the midst of failure. That they glimpsed a God who is the master at redefining failure. (And I always hope that readers will really feel like they were a part of history in the process.)

Trisha:  Yes, all of those things shine through in this story!

pencil-918449_640Q:  What is something that didn’t make it into the final copy?

Heidi:  While I can’t think of anything that didn’t make it into the final copy, I can think of a ton of things that were added!

For instance, there’s a teacup that Sarah Fulton gives Emma in the beginning. That cup became important, particularly symbolically, throughout the story.

Trisha:  I really liked the importance of the teacup that Sarah gave Emma!

desk-1148994_640Q:  What are you currently working on and how long till we can read more?!

Heidi:  Awww, thanks for your enthusiasm! I just finished edits on my next book titled The Orchard House. It’s another time-slip novel that explores some of the little-explored history behind Louisa May Alcott’s time as a nurse in the Civil War. I’m excited to introduce it to readers early next year!

Trisha:  Ohhh, it sounds like a really great story! I look forward to hearing more and of course reading it! Thank you for spending a little time with us today!

The Painted Castle (Lost Castle #3) by Kristy Cambron

Bestselling author Kristy Cambron concludes the Lost Castle novels with this sweeping tale of art and secrets long buried in England.

Synopsis:

It was supposed to be a one-week job: survey an art find, collect a hefty fee, and use that to settle historian Kiera Foley’s life back into balance. But from the moment she sets foot in the East Suffolk countryside, the mysteries surrounding the old English manor and the enigmatic art thief who’s employed her stir more questions than answers. Then, Kiera finds the existence of a portrait captivating enough to upend all of her expectations. This one could be a twin—a painting so close in composition to a known masterpiece, it may be rendered priceless if it truly captured the likeness of a young Queen named Victoria.

Set in three time periods—the rapid change of Victorian England, the tumultuous skies over England’s eastern shores in WWII, and modern day—The Painted Castle unfolds a legacy of faith, family, and stories that are generations in the making.

The Painted Castle (Lost Castle #3)

My Thoughts:

I fell into this book, and I didn’t want to leave! I loved every moment I spent in the pages of this captivating book! Resplendent with vivid imagery, witty dialogue, and dynamic characters all brought this story to life in my imagination.  I equally enjoyed all three of the story-lines and thought that Kristy Cambron tied them together quite brilliantly!

These characters pulled me in and invited me along the journey. I felt every heart-pounding moment right along with them. The mystery, the tender romance, and even the heart-breaking moments that had me reaching for the tissue box. A Christmas dance in stocking feet to the sound of a crackling fire, and many other tender moments that had me holding my breath in anticipation of what would be said next. Intense, and searing the story held me in its grip.

Each of the three time-lines equally captivated my imagination and griped my heart in unexpected ways. Each left indelible marks on my heart that shall stay with me long into the future. I give this book 5-enthusiastic stars and encourage you to enjoy this story yourself at your earliest convenience!

(I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.)

Holy Roman Empire, 1527

With You Here (Carrington Family #4) by Sarah Monzon

Synopsis:

Holy Roman Empire, 1527
In the wake of Martin Luther’s religious reforms, Princess Christyne von Heidelbraum is compelled by her sense of duty to help ease the burden of her people. When she stumbles upon a dying man in the woods, she vows to aid him—even when she discovers the arrow shot in his back was put there by a heretic hunter. With both her physical and spiritual well-being in danger, she must choose between conscience or adhering to the laws of the Empire.

Present Day
Doubting her calling to become a hospital chaplain, Amber Carrington takes time off from her theology studies to volunteer with refugees in Germany. Working with children, making a difference, reconnecting with the conviction that once drove her—these were her expectations. An instant attraction to a professional soccer player wasn’t a part of the plan…and she can’t let him distract her from her purpose.
As a new Christian, Seth Marshall is determined to put his popularity as a world-renowned footballer to good use. Unfortunately, old habits and public opinions are hard to overcome. When he falls hard and fast for Amber Carrington, his former life—and her no-dating policy—may block his perfect shot for the woman he loves.

With You Here (A Carrington Family Novel #4)

My Thoughts:

There is so much to love about this multi-faceted story! I’d be hard-pressed to choose a favorite timeline, as they are both engaging and endearing.  The characters are dynamic and they each have their own compelling story to tell. I was captivated right from the start and held in delight as each beguiling moment was expertly revealed with eloquent details that swept me off my feet and into the very heart of the stories.

I enjoyed traveling back to the reformation period and gaining a first-hand view at what it must have been like to live during such turbulent times. The historical details and vibrant characters pulled me in and had me holding my breath on more than one occasion. I often thought of my own ancestors who were French Huguenots and left France due to persecution. I was reminded of the fact that God’s people have been persecuted throughout history and even still today.

I really enjoyed getting to know Amber Carrington. The Carrington brothers each have their own wonderful stories, but I have long anticipated getting to know Amber. I appreciate that Amber has chosen to follow God’s calling to minister to others and share her faith as a chaplain. The tender love story between Amber and Seth both warmed my heart and kept me on the edge of my seat hoping everything would work out!

I have loved all of the stories in The Carrington Family series and strongly encourage you to pick up a copy for yourself to enjoy!

(I receive complimentary books from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)

Castle on the Rise (Lost Castle #2) by Kristy Cambron

Synopsis:

When Laine Forrester travels to France to attend her longtime friend’s vineyard wedding, she expects to find a bride on the brink of a fairy-tale life. But after a series of unforeseen setbacks–a devastating diagnosis, a castle restoration put on hold, and the emergence of deep-seated family dynamics that threaten to derail the new couple’s fledgling marriage–it seems the storybook life Laine had imagined for her friend–and once, for herself–is suddenly crumbling before her eyes.

With hopes of resurrecting a happy ending for one of them, Laine throws support behind her friend and agrees to accompany the couple to the groom’s family home in Ireland, where the merging of a mysterious inheritance, long-buried wounds, and a fractured family set out to upend the trip from the start. It’s in the unlikely corners of a historic Dublin pub, and across the wide-open moors bordering Ireland’s majestic Wicklow Mountains, that Laine is slowly drawn in by the land and the people, sparking hope for something she never imagined possible: the courage to heal. But with secrets of her own–and a heart afraid to trust again–Laine must determine how much she’s willing to risk in mending the broken places within herself, and whether she believes that even through the depths of our pain, a beautiful story can emerge.

Set in three time-periods–the revolutionary era of the late eighteenth century, Ireland’s turbulent Easter week of the 1916 Rising, and present day–Castle on the Rise weaves a story of legacy, conviction, and redemption against the backdrop of Dublin’s storied streets, and the stretch of Ireland’s stunning emerald shores. It raises the question: given the choice between the fairy tale or a life of truly anchored faith–which legacy would you choose?

My Thoughts:

I absolutely loved reading Castle on the Rise. I was swept away into this vibrant story and felt like I was almost there in Dublin, Ireland. This exceptionally penned story follows the lives of three-leading couples across three time-periods, in a split-time novel that kept me turning pages late into the night! I couldn’t put this book down, I just had to know what would happen next! While this is the second story in the Lost Castle series, it easily stands on its own. Trust me when I tell you that you will want to set aside some quiet reading time to enjoy this gem of a story!

Set in Ireland’s tumultuous history, this story shares the real struggles that occurred on Irish soil for Ireland to gain its freedom from England. While I had read in history books about the uprisings, Cambron brought a new life to the historical events and gave them a face through the lives of these characters.

The deeper I got into the stories the more the characters touched my heart. I found myself even slowing down my reading as I wasn’t ready to reach the end. Expert tip: have a box of tissues on hand! I loved this book and I am eagerly anticipating the third book in the Lost Castle series!

(I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)

The Curse of Misty Wayfair by Jaime Jo Wright

Synopsis:

Left at an orphanage as a child, Thea Reed vowed to find her mother someday. Now grown, her search takes her to Pleasant Valley, Wisconsin, in 1908. When clues lead her to a mental asylum, Thea uses her experience as a post-mortem photographer to gain access and assist groundskeeper Simeon Coyle in photographing the patients and uncovering the secrets within. However, she never expected her personal quest would reawaken the legend of Misty Wayfair, a murdered woman who allegedly haunts the area and whose appearance portends death.

A century later, Heidi Lane receives a troubling letter from her mother–who is battling dementia–compelling her to travel to Pleasant Valley for answers to her own questions of identity. When she catches sight of a ghostly woman who haunts the asylum ruins in the woods, the long-standing story of Misty Wayfair returns–and with it, Heidi’s fear for her own life.

As two women across time seek answers about their identities and heritage, can they overcome the threat of the mysterious curse that has them inextricably intertwined?

My Thoughts:

Suspenseful with a Gothic flair, this story is sure to draw you in and keep you glued to the pages, to find out what happens next! While the title is a little spooky and the cover may give you pause, I knew that I could trust Jaime Jo Wright to pin a story that is both spine-tingling in its suspense, and God fearing at its core.

The story is character driven, and oh, what fantastic characters await in the pages of this dual-timeline story! With threads of faith and redemption everything comes together to form a beautiful tapestry, A beautiful reminder that our identity is in our Creator God.

Things are not as they seem. Often, as in real life you have to peel back the layers to discover the truth, so it is with this story!

(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I am not required to write a positive review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.)

Hidden Among the Stars by Melanie Dobson

From the award-winning author of Catching the Wind, which Publishers Weekly called “unforgettable” and a “must-read,” comes another gripping time-slip novel about hidden treasure, a castle, and ordinary people who resisted evil in their own extraordinary way.

Synopsis:

The year is 1938, and as Hitler’s troops sweep into Vienna, Austrian Max Dornbach promises to help his Jewish friends hide their most valuable possessions from the Nazis, smuggling them to his family’s summer estate near the picturesque village of Hallstatt. He enlists the help of Annika Knopf, his childhood friend and the caretaker’s daughter, who is eager to help the man she’s loved her entire life. But when Max also brings Luzia Weiss, a young Jewish woman, to hide at the castle, it complicates Annika’s feelings and puts their entire plan—even their very lives—in jeopardy. Especially when the Nazis come to scour the estate and find both Luzia and the treasure gone.

Eighty years later, Callie Randall is mostly content with her quiet life, running a bookstore with her sister and reaching out into the world through her blog. Then she finds a cryptic list in an old edition of Bambi that connects her to Annika’s story . . . and maybe to the long-buried story of a dear friend. As she digs into the past, Callie must risk venturing outside the safe world she’s built for a chance at answers, adventure, and maybe even new love.

My Thoughts:

This poignant story wove around my heart and has left a lasting imprint that is sure to remain. Like a master orchestral composition, this story started in broad lyrical strokes and gradually build upon itself into a sweeping masterpiece. Past and present blend together seamlessly in this sweeping saga of love, loss and the power of restoration.

My copy of this book is awash in colorful highlights and page-flags noting parts that I especially enjoyed, quotes, and important details. The setting of the story sets the tone, but its the dynamic characters that carry the plot along, setting the tempo and the lyrical melody. I found myself simultaneously reaching for the tissue box and hugging the book when I finished.

Faith in God plays a central role in the characters lives. This gentle reminder weaved into the story, “God is infinitely more beautiful and loving and tender and kind than anything we can imagine of Him.”

Both vibrant and enduring, this dual-timeline story that is set primarily in Austria during World War II is one that you won’t want to miss! I give this story 5 enthusiastic stars. Order your copy today, or request it from your local library.

(I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)

  Hidden Among the Stars

The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond by Jaime Jo Wright

Synopsis:

For over a century, the town of Gossamer Grove has thrived on its charm and Midwestern values, but Annalise Forsythe knows painful secrets, including her own, hover just beneath the pleasant facade. When a man is found dead in his run-down trailer home, Annalise inherits the trailer, along with the pictures, vintage obituaries, and old revival posters covering its walls. As she sorts through the collection, she’s wholly unprepared for the ramifications of the dark and deadly secrets she’ll uncover.

A century earlier, Gossamer Grove has been stirred into chaos by the arrival of controversial and charismatic twin revivalists. The chaos takes a murderous turn when Libby Sheffield, working at her father’s newspaper, receives an obituary for a reputable church deacon hours before his death. As she works with the deacon’s son to unravel the mystery behind the crime, it becomes undeniably clear that a reckoning has come to town–but it isn’t until another obituary arrives that they realize the true depths of the danger they’ve waded into.

Two women, separated by a hundred years, must uncover the secrets within the borders of their own town before it’s too late and they lose their future–or their very souls.

My Thoughts:

This story exceeded my expectations. The depth of the characters, the exceptional descriptions of location and word imagery that go beyond your typical fiction novel. The very atmosphere of the story is vivid and realistic. I didn’t just read this story, I lived the story! I walked the streets of Gossamer Grove, I took a seat on a stale staw bale of hay that stuck the back of my legs. I felt hurt and sadness at the painful secret that Annalise has had to live with. I turned on lights and nearly reached for my pepper spray at one point. I found myself looking over my shoulder and gasping in shock as the truth was revealed.

Jaime Jo Write has expertly woven together two time periods, each filled with dynamic characters and circumstances.  The author doesn’t shy away from the difficult topics. Within the pages, you’ll be challenged to take a hard look at sin, judgment, forgiveness and extending grace. I didn’t want to put this book down for a moment, I was captivated!

I’m typically not a huge fan of suspense, I’ll occasionally pick up one to read. However, I’m coming to the conclusion that if it’s by this author, I’ll want to pick it up every time! Trust me when I say that you won’t want to pass up the opportunity to read this outstanding new book! I give it 5++ stars and encourage you to snag a copy for yourself!
