Under This Same Sky by Cynthia Roemer

She thought she’d lost everything ~ Instead she found what she needed most.

Illinois ~ 1854
Becky Hollister wants nothing more than to live out her days on the prairie, building a life for herself alongside her future husband. But when a tornado rips through her parents’ farm, killing her mother and sister, she must leave the only home she’s ever known and the man she’s begun to love to accompany her injured father to St. Louis.
Catapulted into a world of unknowns, Becky struggles to make sense of the path the Lord has placed her on and finds solace in corresponding with Matthew Brody, the handsome pastor back home. But when word comes that he is all but engaged to someone else, she must call upon her faith to decipher her future.

My Review:

If you enjoy sweet prairie romance stories then look no further! This heartwarming story gripped my heart right from the first chapter. With dynamic characters that leap off the page and into your heart, this story is one you won’t soon forget.

When a horrible tornado had ripped through Becky Hollister’s family farm, destroying everything in its path. My heart broke right alongside Becky as she struggled to move forward and to understand why God could have let this horrible tragedy wreak havoc on her life.

I believe that all of us at some point in our lives will face hardship, tragedy, and loss. How we deal with that, who we put our trust in, makes all the difference. Will we draw closer to God and put our trust in Him? Or will we allow that devastation to push a wedge between us and our Savior? The simple fact is that we live in a sinful world, and bad things will happen. But God has promised to never leave us, to always be with us, and to turn the bad things into His good, for His glory.

Becky is easily my favorite character, she is a fighter. She takes chances, she makes mistakes, and she isn’t afraid to stand up for those who are hurting. Becky’s care for her father and for the other blind children touched my heart. I wanted to like Matthew more, but his inability to stand up for himself time and again only led me to feel sorry for him.

This poignant story is filled with life lessons. True to life, there is tragedy and loss. But just like life, there is also joy, laughter, and an opportunity for growth. Fans of Janette Oke are sure to love this wonderful story.
