At Love’s Command (Hanger’s Horsemen #1) by Karen Witemeyer

About this book:

Haunted by the horrors of war, ex-cavalry officer Matthew Hanger leads a band of mercenaries known as Hanger’s Horsemen who have become legends in 1890s Texas. They defend the innocent and obtain justice for the oppressed. But when a rustler’s bullet leaves one of them at death’s door, they’re the ones in need of saving.

Dr. Josephine Burkett is used to men taking one look at her skirts and discounting her medical skills. What she’s not used to is having a man change his mind in a heartbeat and offer to assist her in surgery. Matthew Hanger’s dedication to his friend during recovery earns Josephine’s respect, and when she hears of her brother’s abduction, he becomes her only hope for rescue.

Matt has stared down ruthless outlaws, betrayal, and injury, but when a bossy lady doctor crawls under his skin, his heart is tempted to surrender. And when she is caught in the crossfire, he may have to sacrifice everything–even his team–to save her.

My Thoughts:

What a wonderful new book from Karen Witemeyer! The story starts with quite the action scene and the action and drama continue right through to the end. The characters grew on me and earned a place in my heart.

Josephine Burkett has a heart for helping others and hands that were meant for healing. At a time in our history when women were not looked favorably on if they wanted to be a doctor. She proves to not only the town, but also anyone she comes in contact with that she is the very best doctor they could ever hope to meet. Her tenacity might just lead her into trouble.

Matthew Hanger and his comrades seek to help those in trouble, but when trouble comes knocking on their door and turns their plans and lives sideways, will they come out the other side the same?

If you enjoy romantic western Christian Fiction, then you won’t want to miss this exciting, and heartwarming story. I for one am eager to read more stories about Hanger’s Horsemen!

Pretending to Wed (Frontier Vows #2) by Melissa Jagears

About the Book:

It’s a match made in heaven, as long as they don’t fall in love!

The ranch Nolan Key has spent decades working for, even lost a leg for, is now his—or at least it should be. But an absurd clause in his father’s will means he’s in danger of losing the place to his lazy, undeserving cousin. Nolan finds himself scrambling to save his home—by proposing marriage to the town laundress.

Corinne Stillwater’s hands have betrayed her. Numb from hours of doing the same work over and over, her hands will only heal, according to the town doctor, if she gives up the laundry and marries. But she’s been stung repeatedly by love before, so that is one remedy she can’t swallow.

When Nolan offers Corinne a marriage in name only, how can she refuse? Such a partnership could give them the security they seek, but what if the ranch isn’t as secure as they believe, and their lives—and dreams—aren’t quite as compatible as they thought?

Pretending to Wed is the second book in the Frontier Vows Series by award-winning Christian romance author Melissa Jagears. If you like marriage-of-convenience stories that deal with the nitty-gritty of making a relationship work, you’ll love this authentic romance set in a time gone by that tackles issues still relevant for today.

My Thoughts:

What I love about reading Melissa Jagears books, is that her characters face real-life challenges. The story begins with the couple getting married and discovering what daily life looks like. They face difficult challenges. Love and romance is only part of the story, the real life experiences happen when you face challenges together. Does it pull you closer or drive you further apart.

I fell in love with this wonderful characters, flaws and all! I wanted to reach in and give Corinne a hug and encourage her to pray and then talk with Nolan, maybe even give her a good shake and push her in the right direction. Both Corinne and Nolan have past baggage that no matter how they try to leave behind, somehow tags along. This is true for all of us. And just another example of how these characters are delightfully realistic!

I loved reading this book and enjoyed getting to know Corinne and Nolan! I highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoyed marriage of convenience stories, and or stories with dynamic, realistic, flawed, lovable characters.

(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I am not required to write a positive review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.)

Dreams in Deadwood (Seven Brides of South Dakota #1) by Kari Trumbo

About the book:

Jennie Arnsby wants nothing more than to turn around and go home. Her family is on their way to Deadwood, SD, when Aiden finds his way to their small wagon train. His teasing and banter leaves her wanting to toss him out the back and in the dust. When, they are separated outside the city, she is left wondering if she’ll ever see him again.

Aiden Bradly wants to find his gold and return home, nothing more. He can’t afford to get tangled with a woman. He’s doing just that until he meets the feisty Jenny. She gets him thinking about his past and forgiveness, but what’s more important, his past or his new future?
Will Aiden be able to redeem both his past and his future and find a greater treasure than he ever imagined?

Dreams in Deadwood is book one of the Seven Brides of South Dakota series by Kari Trumbo. A romantic, Wild West romp in pioneer South Dakota.

My Thoughts:

Two stubborn hearts wrestle with each other and try to push away from a love that is obvious to everyone around them. I enjoyed listening to the unabridged audio book version from audible. It sure made housework more enjoyable. I have to admit that toward the last several chapters I was actually searching for extra things I could do so as to have more time to listen!

These characters have great chemistry and I especially enjoyed the banter. I laughed out loud several times and found myself talking to the characters more than once wishing they could only hear me and straighten up!

If you are looking for a sweet, yet fun western romance, then do yourself a favor and snag a copy of Dreams in Deadwood by Kari Trumbo. It is sure to keep you turning pages laughing, and sighing with contentment.

Woman of Sunlight (Brides of Hope Mountain #2) by Mary Connealy

Synopsis:

After years of isolation on top of Hope Mountain, Ilsa Nordegren may finally be ready to leave. Raised to fear the world, Ilsa and her sisters never planned on coming down, but when the Warden family arrived in need, they had to help. And it may cost them everything.

Having made his fortune, Mitch Warden returned home and found the family homestead abandoned. In a land grab, a ruthless cattle baron had forced his family to escape up the mountain, and when he follows, the last thing he expects is to fall smitten to a black-haired woman who dresses like Robin Hood.

Warden is intent on helping his family reclaim their land, but doesn’t realize the risks his past has brought. Dangerous men have tracked him, and rather than risk innocent lives, he’s determined to end the danger. But that means a journey to the city–and when Ilsa insists on joining him, the mismatched pair suddenly find themselves on a venture they’ll never forget.

Woman of Sunlight (Brides of Hope Mountain #2)

My Thoughts:

This second story in the Brides of Hope Mountain series picks up right where the last story ended. I enjoyed spending time with Ilsa and Mitch in this story and getting to know them better.

I didn’t want to put this story down for a moment. The adventure, the mystery, and of course the fun banter between these two characters kept me wanting more and turning pages late into the night. I do have to admit that I didn’t like how this book ended. But with that said, I was thrilled to find out that there will be a third book, and I can not wait to get my hands on that story!

If you are looking for a page-turning, witty story, filled with mystery and adventure then do yourself a favor and be sure to pick up a copy of this book! Do be sure to catch the first book in the series, because you will want to read these wonderful stories in order.

Aiming for Love (Brides of Hope Mountain #1)

Woman of Sunlight (Brides of Hope Mountain #2)

Her Secret Song (Brides of Hope Mountain #3)

Saved by Grace (Brothers of Belle Fourche #4) by Kari Trumbo

Synopsis:

Cody couldn’t be more opposite from Natalie.
When Natalie arrives in Belle Fourche with her ailing father and three wayward brothers, she’s forced to throw herself upon the mercy of her only remaining family—the Olesons—at the Broken Circle O. While her father rests, Natalie is excited to meet an ornery man with deep, gray eyes, and a missing leg. She’s certain that if he’ll agree to let her father fashion a prosthetic limb for him, the familiar work will help her father recuperate. But getting Cody Hammond to agree to anything proves more difficult than she first imagined. Will she be able to win him over before it’s too late for her father?

A chip on his shoulder isn’t easy to bear.
Cody Hammond lives a quiet, ordered life, until one day an unfamiliar woman rushes into the bank where he works and threatens to disrupt everything. The more Natalie pushes her way into Cody’s life, the more she makes him think about a past he’s worked hard to forget. He’s determined to keep her away, but even his best isn’t enough to scare off the enigmatic and beautiful Natalie.

Saved by Grace (Brothers of Belle Fourche #4)

My Thoughts:

This is my fourth visit to Belle Fourche and I find every visit just as enjoyable as the one before.  I have greatly enjoyed reading this series of stories from author Kari Trumbo. This time I enjoyed listening to the audiobook. I quickly found myself talking to the characters as if they could hear me.

When I first started this story I found Cody Hammond a grumpy, man. One that seemed happier left alone to his own devices, and I was quite happy to just leave him alone. However, the more I read and got to know the “real” Cody Hammond I grew to understand him and before long found myself cheering for him! He fits the description of a misunderstood hero to a T.

I just wanted to hug sweet Natalie and tell her that everything would work out okay. She has such a big heart. She longs to help her father and wants to do what is right by her unruly brothers. Then she meets Cody. True to her big-hearted nature, she takes him under her wing.

These characters are sure to bring a smile to your face and warm your heart in the most unassuming ways. While you can read this story as a stand-alone, there are characters from previous stories that have minor roles. I would recommend reading previous stories because they are all just so very enjoyable!

Eli Oleson killed a man.
Never mind that he did it to save the lives of others, it’s eaten his soul to shreds. Nothing matters. When he injures himself breaking a horse, he has little reason to recover, except for the feisty English nurse who keeps pestering him.

Anne Hammond is a skilled nurse, trained in curing the sick and treating the wounded, but some wounds don’t heal as easily.
She’s seen war and heartache and left England for the American west to forget the images that haunt her. When a cowboy, broken in more ways than she can see, winds up on her examining table, will she be skilled enough to assist in his healing? Or will his wounds only open the ones she thought she’d left behind?

Get the third installment in the sweet Christian romance series, by bestselling author Kari Trumbo.

Deep Longing of the Soul (Brothers of Belle Forche #3)

My Thoughts:

After reading the first two books in the Bell Forche series I was eager to get my hands on this story! These brothers each have their own hurdles to climb over and a past that seems to follow them like an old hound dog. There are poignant lessons to learn and sometimes the growth can be painful.

As always I enjoyed my time in Belle Forche. This time I listened to the audiobook. There were moments that had me laughing out loud and moments that had me holding my breath. The characters came vividly to life, and I felt like I was in the story right along with them. Their personalities shined through and fit together so well.

Even though this is the 3rd book in the series you could read it as a stand alone, but trust me when I say that you won’t want to miss out on the two fabulous stories written before this one!

Sand Creek Serenade by Jennifer Uhlarik

Synopsis:

Dr. Sadie Hoppner is no stranger to adversity. She’s fought to be taken seriously since childhood, when her father began training her in the healing arts. Finding acceptance and respect proves especially difficult at Fort Lyon, where she’s come to practice medicine under her brother’s watchful eye.

Cheyenne brave Five Kills wouldn’t knowingly jeopardize the peace treaty recently negotiated between his people and the Army. But a chance encounter with the female doctor ignites memories of his upbringing among the whites. Too intrigued to stay away, tension erupts with the soldiers, and Five Kills is injured.

As he recuperates under the tender care of the pretty healer, an unlikely bond forms. However, their fledgling love is put to the test when each realizes that a much greater danger awaits—a danger they are wholly unable to stop, and one which neither may survive.

My Thoughts:

There is so much to love about this story! The strong female lead, rich historical details, Native American culture, faith in God, mystery, and a tender romance. You won’t want to miss this delightful, page-turning adventure on the wild frontier!

Sadie Hoppner has studied and worked hard to learn all she can about medicine. She spent long hours reading her father’s medical journals, watching and assisting him with patients. Now working alongside her brother for the Army, she is beginning to see her dream of healing and helping come true.

When an unlikely encounter with a Cheyenne brave sparks tensions already on edge Five Kills is injured and in need of medical attention. A friendship blooms. Amidst peace talks and fragile allegiance, will their friendship bloom or their differences drive a wedge between them?

With beautiful descriptions, strong dynamic characters and vivid dialogue, I was swept into the story and blissfully along for the ride! My emotions ran the gauntlet as I enjoyed every page. The massacre scene was difficult to read. My heart broke for the atrocities that were done by the Army to the peaceful Indians camped at Sand Creek. But we are reminded that even in the darkest moments, love and grace abound!

I truly didn’t want the story to end. I highly recommend this excellent story to one and all, especially those who enjoy story set in the Western frontier! I look forward to reading more from Jennifer Uhlarik in the future!
